On Virgin Mobile (uses Sprint's network, pay-as-you-go). Customer service is atrocious, hope you never need them to do anything... Talk service is ok in most of Valpo. No service in my house, sometimes no service out to the street. No service in Walmart, Menards, or Target. Data coverage is less reliable. Reverts to 3G often. Big dead area for data west of Valpo along 130 to Hobart. Signal is good along the Toll road and in Chicago. Virgin has locked out the hot-spot feature and doesn't allow OS updates. no reception on ATT. called and was told to stand in window. I told them that was unacceptable. I had Verizon for years and never had problems with service in my home. finally was told they would send out new sim card would be here in 3 to 5 days. Been 2 weeks. still waiting. Switched from Verizon. Still on the fence. Used to get 4g at times with Big Red but there's no such thing in my area with Sprint. Calls and texts seem fine over the network but don't even think about trying to watch a YouTube video. Not sure if the $30 a month in savings is gonna be worth it. Until this Summer we had reliable service. Sprint has upgraded their towers. Now all calls drop when showing 5 bars of service and it always shows 5 bars of service. While talking to Sprint on a landline they have blamed my phone for the issue and they have called me a liar. Texts are seldom received, or if received they arrive late. I have been a customer for 7 years here and I will be switching carriers, taking Sprint to small claims if need be.Was this review helpful to you?
For over a decade we have been Sprint customers. In this area (at home, work, and most of town) we have received reliable, if not always speedy, cell service. Mid-year Sprint ‘upgraded’ the local towers. This ‘upgrade’ now means that the vast majority of our attempted incoming and outgoing calls fail, partial or no texts go through, and we show great service until the very moment we attempt to use it at which point the reception drops to – no bars, radio error, or roaming with no bars. During this time frame I have spent 218 hours ‘chatting’ with CRs. We are always promised a fix by date and ensured that our service will be even better. Now, being fed up, I have requested that our early termination fee on an Evo 4G and Blackberry Curve be waived. We need to call a number to do this. After attempting 96 calls and receiving Voice Mail responses only I finally got through… and the call dropped. An entire month of saying, just call this number and all will be well, we still must pay for a ‘service’ that is not being delivered. After 10 years of loyalty my wife and I have been rewarded with frustration, repeated broken promises, drivel for service, and MANY hours wasted. The next step will be small claims court. Visiting family and friends have likewise commented on how bad the service has become in the area along with the strange behaviors it now exhibits. Random neighbors walking on the street have even started conversations with us regarding Sprint- these are people that we’ve never spoken to other than a short greeting.
