Reception is real bad in this area. I had my phone for years and it works great in most places but ATT / Cingular has not improved reception around here in at least 4 years. There is one large tower by the prison which should make this a hot area but something seams to be wrong and they don't care to fix it. More Bars in more places is for someplace else.

I have been fighting with dropped calls ever since I switched from Nextel to Cingular. I was told by the local dealer that Jackson TWP is in a pothole where service is poor. Cingular calls it medium to good coverage ! Going up / down 421 there is a dead spot by the MC Campground and on 6 just west of Co line rd. I am 2 miles away from a 275' AT&T tower near the Westville prison and have been told that my phone is looking for the best service but I still can not get reliable service from here. No service at all from Valpo Walmart. Signal strenght in some places is one bar which changes to 2-4 bars without moving. Cingular even sent me another V551 but I returned it because I got the same results as the original phone. A service man used his Nextel walky talky from my basement and the Nextel tower is near the At&T tower on Hwy. 2.... ..You figure.

Technically we have AT and T as our carrier even though Cingular has taken over. Maybe this is the trick to the Westville area. We were told since Cinglar didn't cover this area yet we could stay with AT and T and our phone would search our both AT and T and Cingular towers. So we get pretty decent reception in this area. Like most people on this site though we have problem areas in Valpo and some county roads in Chesterton experience drop offs. Michigan City usually has great coverage for us. LaPorte varies. One side of the street on Lincolnway will give me 3 to 4 bars, the other side sometimes only 2 even though it's the same block, just different lane of traffic! Weird. We've been happy with AT and T and hope that once everything is completely converted to Cingular things only improve.
