always have awesome reception in Manhattan, a little shaky in JC, but manhattan is great. Alltel also provides good reception when roaming out of state, recently travelled, and had reception the whole time even in the woods!
Frequent static, calls temporary cutting out, and dropping altogether. Battery life is 1 / 2 to 1 / 4 what it is in an area with good reception (eg: Overland Park).
I have a crappy phone through alltell and have had decent service for the last couple years. I've also had cellular One for this same area and I felt it was worse by a little bit, single was usually little less strength. I'm moving to Wichita in a year, i've researched this site and I think Verizon would be the best, but not sure if Verizon is any good for Manhattan because they have no reviews... not sure what to make of that...
I never have any problems with reception in Manhattan except for in the Bram and after football games. I assume the football games is due to network traffic.
For those of you who get "crappy" service: did you know that since they promised you clear service, and they can't live up to that, you can legally cancel their service and NOT pay a cancellation fee. I did this before and won. After all, their part of the agreement is to provide clear service; if they don't then THEY broke the contract! So you can legally cancel the contract since they didn't live up to the agreement!
I get good service even though I am out "in the sticks." But did you know that, if you provider promises you good reception and you don't get it that you can legally cancel? After all, THEY are the ones that broke the contract! If they can't provide what they said they could, then you can cancel... I've done it before and won.
Alltel, while the most expensive carrier around here, has the best reception. I live 25 miles north of Manhattan and I get great reception from my home. Also if I am in Junction City or Manhattan the reception is perfect. From Manhattan to Topeka on I-70 there are a few dead spots.
Good Reception everywhere, limited droped calls,(like 1 every week or 2) Sometimes reception in basements isn't all that good. If you get out on dirt roads on the outskirts of manhattan, reception gets poor. depending on where you are, no service. Outskirts as in 20miles + or -
