I've had AT&T (Cingular) in many parts of the nation. I've always had great reception. Wichita has been another story. I consistently have dropped calls. It doesn't work near my work near McConnell. I checked, and I have a cell tower less than half a mile away from my house, yet the signal is below average upstairs and spotty at best in the basement. What gives? AT&T needs to clean up their act, or they're going to lose a lot of customers.
I have had T-Mobile for a couple of years now, and it is pretty good. Their plans are cheap, customer service is usually very helpful and MOST of the time I do not have a problem with reception. Lately I have had some problems receiving calls and messages, but my phone is several years old and has been dropped 5 too many times. Overall, T-Mobile is pretty good.
Switched from Verizon to Cingular to get a family plan where all the family is "covered." Terrible mistake. Verizon reception was strong in my basement office, but Cingular frequently drops my calls. In fact, Cingular drops my calls wherever I go in my car. Verizon almost never did. Cingular billing is a mess, and hard to get fixed.
Horrible reception at Central and Hillside and at my home near 53rd St. North and Seneca. Complained for three days in a row at the North Rock Alltel and they called the police on thew third time. No action was taken by police but they said if I came back to complain that they would issue a no trespassing order. All I wanted to do was drop my contract after having the phone for only six weeks. They said it would cost me $400.00 to do it. Not concerened that I was not getting reception at home and at work. Horrible company.
Absolutely the worst service I have ever seen. It is not the phone model either since we have had several different phones with them. Pretty poor service to begin with but in the last few years the phone has utterly become worthless. Can barely use it to make a call from outside the house and even when a call goes through and doesn't drop you only hear about 1 word out of 3. The other thing that mystifies me about all carriers is nobody promotes a phone that is a power house just as a phone. I would give up every feature that I never use just to get a phone that has good voice quality and good reception.
I have been using T-Mobile for about 7 years now. I've always had great reception and no dropped calls while in the city. I don't travel outside of town too much, but the few times I have, as long as I had some reception, I could maintain a connection.
As far as I'm concerned, Cingular / AT&T is useless here. I want to throw my phone at the TV when I see them talking about "No dropped calls" and such like that... there are too many times when I go literally three HOURS without a signal. Drops off at will, in the middle of a phone call, or not. Completely worthless in Wichita. WTF man?
