I can use my iPhone 4 for calls during the day, but get dropped calls fairly often (something like 1 in 6). During the weekdays, 3G service is abysmal at best, don't expect to be able to do anything on your phone between the hours of 8 and 5 on a weekday other than text / calls. Weekends and nights aren't so bad. It's definitely an issue of overcrowded network while everyone is working downtown.

I have had a lot of trouble getting data downtown with AT&T... even outside. I work in a 6-story building with large buildings around me. Voice / texting works ok, but data is practically non-existent. It's really frustrating. I'm looking into switching to Verizon because my coworkers seem to have better luck with them. Perhaps the AT&T network is just too congested downtown.

NO matter where I am in the downtown area, on top of the highest building. AT&T is just terrible. I changed to them for the Iphone and regret it now. I never had any problems with Sprint in this area.

Reception is fine on the streets downtown, but the signal weakens inside buildings. This is referring to TDMA. The GSM phone I had didn't get any reception inside any building.

I pretty much never have calls dropped or bad reception with Verizon. I've used this carrier for over 10 years in this locale. I also use them through Northern Kentucky and Southern Indiana with no problems.

Using my cell phone on campus, in Old Louisville and downtown is like using a landline. When I get background noise - it's usually the caller's phone and they admit it. At home, Old Louisville - solid brick walls nearly 1.5 feet thick - I get four bars all over the house. On campus - in buildings and steel elevators - three bars and good connection. Downtown - in larger buildings - I rarely have a call drop on me. Except in second story (underground) basement of federal building. No bars there! Doh!

In the highlands, my iPhone consistently fluctuates b / w 0-no reception and 1 bar with very garbled transmission. Don't even try to use the Edge network around here, cuz it won't work.
