Here in the coalfields of the appalachian mountains one would think that cellular coverage is horrible. However Cingular has decent coverage nearly everywhere I go. The only place I have not been able to get any signal at all is through hardy, KY area on Rt. 319. Other local providers do not have coverage in this area either. Coverage there is spotty 1 bar to no service for about 8 miles. Other than that I have never been without coverage. I have a national plan that doesnt charge me for roaming or long distance. I live 12 miles from the border of west virginia. When I near the wv border I roam seamlessly onto AT&T towers. I travel all over the state of KY, VA, WV, OH, and TN and have not had any major problems placing or getting calls. Downtown pikeville and surrounding area is excellent for signal, even in buildings. Here in my home i get 3 - 4 bars. I am a very happy TDMA/AMPS Cingular customer. I have not tried GSM as of yet. but I will most likely get the GAIT phone when my contract is up, if they still offer it.
