Alltel is an excellent carrier. Not only do I always get a useable signal anywhere in town, and I do mean anywhere, deep inside office buildings, stores like Home Depot and Walmart, remote areas surrounding town, and the like. I have travelled and camped in remote locations, and I always get a useable signal, not only around the state, but around the country on their nationwide plan. It is hard for me to think of an area in the country that I have experienced really poor reception and dropped calls. Of course, the Motorola Startac may have something to do with it, and probably does, but I have always had excellent reception with Alltel. Alltel may sound like a cheesy small carrier, but I can assure you it is not, and no, neither I or my family work for them.

I'm in Lakepark subdivision off O'Neal Lane and I usually get 4-5 bars in the house, but I do have a couple of rooms that I can't get much signal in. I usually get 5 bars all over town with my phone. If I drive between here and New Orleans, I usually get the same kind of reception. I went to the Paragon in Marksville last year and reception there wasn't very good, no 3G, only Edge, but I could make a call and send a text message.

Reception is poor with frequent dropped calls and extremely slow data service in my neighborhood. Calls to my cell rarely ring going straight to voice mail. Even texting fails frequently. phone reports "no service" about 25% of the time with 1 bar the rest of the time. I have complained numerous times and use their iPhone APP to report every problem. Nothing will change. Since AT&T has the land service contract in BR they have no incentive to improve cell phone service to the point that it will replace the land line service. Verizon has no similar conflict of interest and as soon as my contract expires, I'm going to try them.

The AT&T Coverage Map is erroneous. It states that my area in question area is 'good'... when in fact it is 'poor'. The reception once you get past Antioch on Tiger Bend drops off to one bar at best and then will drop when trying to connect on a call. Most AT&T users in the Parterre and surrounding subdivisions along Tiger Bend usually resort to standing 'outside of their house' trying to get a working signal... and then it's usually a poor 1 bar quality signal with substantial dropped calls when you are able to get a signal at all. During rain or incliment weather conditions, there are absolutely no signal bars available at all. AT&T has known about this problem for over 15 years yet will do nothing to resolve the problem. My local AT&T store, the technical representatives and their management state that their coverage map is accurate and will not even bother to perform a test drive to see the problem first hand. They do admit however to maybe 'some' technical problems by allowing me a 'discount' on a microcell unit. All facts support severe technical coverage faults in the area and a microcell tower should be free to the users of this affected area.

Looks like from the comments above this has been a problem in this neighborhood for five years at least. AT&T is "Universal," eh? I have friends who live there and who drive through there and who have AT&T (as do I) and I'd bet my life there will be a dropped call 95% of the time. Average, the rest of the calls I make, probably only 20%, which is still way too high.

Bars fluctuate without moving from one spot. Can't stay on the phone more than 30 seconds AT MOST without the signal dropping completely off and dropping the call. I don't know if AT&T is leasing towers or just letting the ones they have fall apart but their business will surely go downhill quickly as their customer service is horrible. Put that together with dropping every call made and recieved in this area and the flat out lies the service reps are trained to tell the customer and there's just no way people will stay. WARNING... Beware of bundling your services with these crooks! You WILL get ripped off!

I am totally disappointed with AT&T dropped calls, late voicemails and poor signal. I just bought another phone and signed up with Verizon. My signal is strong, fast and reliable. I love my iphone, but consider it worthless. If AT&T would invest money in their towers like Verizon and Sprint, they wouldn't be losing customers like myself.

Almost no reception in this subdivision. My Blackberry works better than my husbands Iphone. It was better for a short time, but now back to very poor. I had a Nextel phone for about a month, great reception.
