I get amazing reception in New Orleans with Alltel. I rarely ever have had less than two bars anywhere and dropped calls are pretty rare. Even inside an old shotgun house with solid cypress planks in the wall (where my Tracfone that used AT&T gsm and another before that that used t-mobile's networks couldn't ever get a call inside the house, plus it's right next to another similar shaped house) my Alltel cdma phone can get and receive calls reliably.
Wow, we had Alltel, and sense Alltel bought Verizon, we went ahead and switch to Verizon and LOVE it! Service is in so many more places then AT&T and Sprint!
Always have reception. Except in WalMart. Other than that it depends on the phone I think. My husband has cingular, and he always misses or drops my calls.
Only problem I have had is customer service over the phone. I have had a very big problem with reps giving the incorrect information and not adding the correct features & promotions to the line.
TDMA works great all over southeast Louisiana and south Mississippi and has reliable to excellent service in every city/airport around the country as well as on all the highways and interstates even off in the country it works pretty well. the point is, if you must travel for work, and not always in major cities, then stick with TDMA , GSM is not reliable yet and you will miss important calls due to gaps in coverage
reception on the TDMA network is great all over the westbank and the eastbank of new orleans. only occasional lapses in coverage like algiers near the intersection of woodland and gen. meyers, top of the bridge and a small section of magazine street. not like the gsm coverage which is a joke.
