I've been very happy with AT&T since they switched to 3G. My reception at home and at the office (Central State Hospital) is improved. I love having the faster internet. I tried Verizon and why folks claim they have such great service just amazes me. No coverage between Gardner and Leesville, barely any signal between Pineville and Marksville. When trying to make a call the signal goes to nothing. The only advanage Verizon has is in Grant Parish, other than that AT&T kicks their butts in terms of coverage. One thing for sure is that NONE of these companies are going to provide absolute coverage everywhere. You just have to go with the one that works the best where you live, work and travel the most. AT&T is far from perfect, but the service works in many areas that Verizon does not. The real deal is for coverage Centennial is the best, but their expensive OLD phones drove me away. Right now Centennial is being gutted thanks to the FCC. I wish this Alexandria market had been allowed to stay with AT&T. However, if Verizon gets it maybe they'll actually have decent services in the Alexandria and rural areas around CENLA.

I get great service in and around Leesville. Hwy. 28 is spotty, but Verizon is to have towers all down through there by the end of the year. So far I have been very pleased with Verizon. Verizon also works great in and around Alexandria. I always have 3G service and my calls are clear. Much better then AT&T.

Hwy. 167 From Pineville To Winnfield, Pineville, LA 71360 |
Sun Sep 13, 2009 |
Taking Hwy. 167 from Pineville, La to Winnfield, La there is poor to no reception. Mostly NO reception. There is one tower at at Packton and that is all. Centennial has solid coverage in this area from Pineville to Winnfield! The signal will drop down, but still acceptable. Better than no reception like on AT&T. Clearly they need a couple of towers. I would have never dreamed that AT&T had no tower in Dry Prong, La but they do not.

Prior to going with AT&T I went to AllTel, which of course had been purchased by Verizon. They have since be rebranded as such. I got the phone and found that right in Alexandria / Pineville reception was just OK. Once I traveled out of this area this is where problems begin. Going to Leesville you can forget have any service whatsoever. Traveling toward Winnfield.. No service. I was able to get service around Colfax, along going to Jena and Jonesville the coverage was spotty at best. Unless you just stay in Alexandria and Pineville, I cannot recommend this service. AT&T and Centennial are much, much better for rural area reception (hands down).

I get excellent coverage all around the city of Alexandria and Pineville. I also travel a good bit into the rural areas. There are some dead zones, but that was the case with Centennial too. I was a long time Centennial customer, but opted to get an iPhone and AT&T. I have to say I was a bit worried, because my reception with Centennial at home, work and in the rural areas I travel was always good. However, after having the phone for a few weeks I realized the coverage was actually pretty decent. Not as good as Centennial, but since they are buying Centennial I know many of those towers will become AT&T towers, so the reception should get even better. I don't think any carrier is going to be perfect unless you never go anyway. I love my iPhone and thus far the service on AT&T has been good! No complaints!

Great Coverage with Alltel. We had Centennial before and they had almost as good coverage. We tried an iPhone for 30 days and could not get coverage at our house, either of our parents house, or any where we normally go: Ball, Tioga, Pineville, we got very poor coverage in Alex., so we kept our Alltel carrier and very glad, I just wish they carried the iPhone, we miss it!

I was really surprised how well Alltel does in this area. I switched over 4 lines from AT&T which I had always assumed was the best here and it seemed to be what most people had. I switched mainly because Alltel saved us $40 month total since I needed less than half the anytime minutes because of My Circle. But now I get full signal inside home where I previously got 2. Service is really strong throughout Pineville and Alexandria. In a larger building like either Wal-Mart (Pineville or Alexandria) or at some places in the medical center, the signal does drop down to a bar or 2 but I can hold a call throughout. Overall, the signal is generally a little stronger here than anybody else I've tried.

We got Verizon from Shreveport after trying Sprint and Cingular. Both had terrible reception here. Now with Verizon, we never have dropped calls or bad reception. The only problem is our phone numbers are from Shreveport so they're long distance and some features don't work (Get it Now, Mobile Web). Voice mail works great.

I get very good reception most places in Pineville. However, the reception is notably bad in the area near the junior high and down Susek. I also get good reception anywhere on I-49.

I'm sorry I signed a contract with Cingular. The reception in Pineville, LA is pathetic. The salesperson recommended the BEST phone they sold and we get no service and dropped calls daily. I would like to know how to complain to someone other than the office / salesman where I bought the phones.

Although Nextel doesn't have extensively widespread coverage, I was pleasantly surprised that it works really well in this neighborhood. Maybe not as reliably as Cingular, but very close. Used to have Sprint. Could not use that service indoors here. Nextel's coverage in my house here is night and day different than sprint.
