Usually good service around the hill, even indoors. The only spots with problems have been downtown, near the water and Quincy Market, but that has gotten better in 2004. Some places in Allston are also bad, but most everywhere around the city has been good.

If there is a cloud in the sky the phone service is shakey. The real rip off is the wireless hotspot and internet. They worked great for the first few weeks. After Verizon got the iphone they hardly work at all.

Get good voice signal however, data rarely / never works in my office building which is a large building housing KPMG. Most AT&T customers have spotty coverage in here (variety of phones covering HTC, iPhone and Blackberry + some windows phones but can't remember which OEMs specifically). Addittionally, several restaurants around the area get spotty coverage which has proven very difficult when I need to head out for business meetings / lunches. NEED TO RESOLVE - this is downtown Boston and this buiulkding alone has at least 600 employees (~200 AT&T given their market share)

I have had AT&T and an iPhone 3GS for 10 days. It's going back to the store tomorrow. I had Verizon for 6+ years and never dropped a call. I have 4 dropped calls in 8 days with AT&T. Completely embarassing. The iPhone is incredible as a device, but the service is an incredible let down. Switching back to Verizon tonight.

My apartment and the North End is a complete dead zone for Verizon. I only have cell service in one place in my apartment and that is the bathroom standing over the sink. I can't even receive texts if my phone is not in the bathroom. Sometimes I will use SKYPE instead of my cell phone and I've even considered getting a landline. If you are walking down Hanover Street, you will most certainly lose calls.

Cingular's always been good in this area at the top of Beacon Hill, along with Verizon (except sometimes indoors). I just wish someone would post about T-Mobile, which I am planning to move to for a new phone.

terrible reception- I have to go outside to make a call and even then I often lose the call repeatedly. AT&T is great, as long as you don't want to make or answer your phone inside... .

No reception throughout building, 2nd floor and below, even with clear view toward Longwood. Reception, once good, died gradually two years ago. T-Mobile claim several towers within 1 / 4 mile. Service requests result in local towers being checked, but coverage holes are not investigated. Was told that I should have tried the E70's SIM in the G1 phone - the one test I didn't try; I think they're grasping at straws. Verizon and Sprint have passable reception; AT&T's is quite good.

Verizon works great in Back Bay and seems pretty good throughout most of Boston. I have occasional dropped calls but don't recall having hit a "dead spot" in the city. I am considering switching to T-Mobile because they have better phones and cheaper plans... I'm just not sure how T-Mobile performs throughout the rest of the Boston metro area.

As far as I can tell, Cingular has the best reception if you are going to be on the Northeastern campus. It's spotty in some of the classroom buildings, but only on the lower floors.

I get perfect reception in most of Boston, but there are some spots with no signal at all: 1. The Memorial drive twist betwen Galeria mall and MIT 2. Crossing BU bridge 3. Getting off Storrow drive to Fenway 4. Parts of Sudbury and soranding towns. 5. Parts of Rt. 109 in Medway area. 6. Tr 93 Medford area 7. Lee and Newton street area in Chestnut Hill. Happy with the servise. Not happy with the upgrade phones and the way they offer things to strangers, but not to the loyal long term customers.
