No reception around Beacon from Calvin St. to Concord St. No reception around Irving and Kirkland. No reception from Oxford St. west until past Harvard Law School - dead area is right near Maxwell Dworkin, Harvard grad dorms, and east till Francis St, and Div. School buildings. Reception at other areas on Harvard campus is not ideal. Have tried other phones and surprisingly this one does better than my friends RAZR, and the 8125.

Reception is great, inside and outside the house, and in the whole neighborhood. Usually full bars. However I do experience extremely frequent dropped calls and mid-call tower-switching, or so it seems. In the middle of a phone call with 4-5 bars, the conversation suddenly goes dead for several seconds (not even ambient earphone noise), the phone makes a short burst of pulsing hums, and then the conversation comes back just as abruptly as it disappeared. This is similar to problems many others have reported with this phone, so I don't know if it's a signal issue, a phone issue, or some artifact of how this particular phone deals with signal problems. But for what it's worth, it's my experience.

I have always had good reception until about 7 days ago. Suddenly I have no reception at home, no reception in my office... no reception anywhere! When I am fortunate enough to get a weak signal and make a call, the call gets dropped. I contacted Cingular and they said the network was functioning properly, and it was probably my phone. The phone is new and functioned perfectly until a week ago. The cautious consumer may want to consider another provider, because something is going on at Cingular.

No problems. I have to really be in the boonies, a bomb shelter, or a building with thick stone walls before my phone loses reception.

Horrible reception inside my house. Ironically, my roomate has the exact same model phone, but in T-Mobile (I think, maybe it was Verizon) - and they have perfect service. Works outside okay, but even then my calls get dropped every now and then.

I never get good reception in our house. This house is so cold and has no insulation so I highly doubt it's the thickness of the walls!

Almost no problems. Occasional drops calls in local area, but could just be the phone being funny. it likes to do that.

we get zero reception in and around our house and barely better reception in surrounding areas - according to Cingular it's because we live in an old house with thick walls... i suppose that's why our friends with Verizon have no problems and our phones don't even work OUTSIDE the walls of our house?!?!?

Dreadful reception has got even worse recently in this area, I think because the AT&T GSM towers have started automatically handing off to the Cingular (310410) tower which is totally unreliable here. The phone rings, I answer it, and the call gets dropped. Or else we get to talk, but I get an audio dropout every 30 seconds or so and have to ask the other person to repeat what they're saying. It's a joke. My phone gets great reception in other areas, including San Francisco even with all the hills there. I live on top of a hill in the most densely populated city in New England (Somerville, that is)! You would expect Cingular to want to sell plans and / or have happy customers here of all places, but apparently not. I suggest you go with T-Mobile instead, with whom I used to have excellent reception before I foolishly switched.
