Unable to make / receive calls. I fear cell tower companies have simply given up on this town. We're not heavy cell users but it is certainly an inconvenience. Cable landline phones are also limited during power outages as they need power to operate and only have 4-5 hour battery backup.

Bought the Verizon Network extender on ebay for 79$. It is a Godsend - worth every penny - now we get 3 bars all over the house where we would have none to one. Easy to install and use.

Upton is well known as a dead zone for most carriers. Nextel has some coverage but spotty.

The service on the iPhone 4 is OK at Blackstone Valley Tech. Not perfect, but better than most phones.

The service at Blackstone Valley Tech High School is poor! It is OK in certain parts of the building, but it is very poor most places.

Upton is notorious for lousy cell service with most carriers. Nextel has some coverage but it is not that great. Attempts have been made to put more towers in the town but the local bylaws seem to drive the companies away or tie them up so long in zoning reviews that they withdraw the applications. It just does not make sense when the town has so much undeveloped space where a tower would go unnoticed. God forbid we put a tower on a big ugly water tank and improve service while bringing in some much needed revenue for the town. Come on! I now use a Verizon Network Extender via my high speed internet to get coverage in the house. It works pretty good.

Only get 1 bar in one very specific spot in the house. Other than that, it's a 10 minute drive to Hopkinton to get service. Friends will call my cell and then accuse me of screening my calls when I don't call back. Was hoping another service would be the answer. Guest seem to have no problem with their service and their phones at my house (?) Still waiting for FIOS, too.

theres no service anywhere! I have to put it down for a while and let it constantly search for service just to send a text and it drains my battery. and if you move it too much it loses service within seconds. you cant even call anyone. its awful.

Leave it to Upton, virtually no cell service. I hear its the stupid old townies that keep voting this stuff down. How long did it take to get the water main fixed for real -- 8 years? Cell service, nope, maybe in another ten years? And cable, heck need I say more? Do we live in Afganistan or something?

Upton has been upgraded this past week to 3G service. Coverage extends to places Verizon cannot reach.
