It's a joke. Even with an external antenna. No service on US 340 from the river until Frederick, MD. Cingular has denied this in emails and says buying a new phone will solve all. Pfui.
Usually can make call, but must use the phone on speaker so that phone can be held up so that antenna is verticle. This problem exist almost to Frederick, MD and half way to Percelville, Va. Gets better after Harpers Ferry toward Charlestown.
