I had to walk pass my garage or walk around, to get a reception that is still poor, and the worst is it still drops every once in a while, dont know if repeater will solve the problem.
I almost ALWAYS have average-perfect reception on campus. The only places where I don't are elevators and basements of buildings. I never get reception at Jimenez though. Van Munching is always good-perfect.
I usually always have some service, however in buildings its difficult to get really good service. I always barely had service in the dorms, and usually kept the phone by the window so I didn't miss calls. In South Campus Commons, I can have in anywhere in my apartment without trouble, but I don't ever have more than a bar or two. Outside of buildings, I get pretty good serivce. In classrooms, depending on what building I'm in, I either get some service or none at all. I do find, however, that I generally have better service than people with cingular, nextel, etc. Generally, from what my friends say, the only carrier that gets great service at UMD is Verison.
Verizon used to have horrible reception on South Campus, especially in the Commons. I never got any signal in my apartment. Then, just the other day, I opened my phone and I saw 5 bars. (New tower?) Anyways, I've had fantastic reception all across South Campus ever since. Also, Verizon works great all across UMD's campus.
Loved the phones, but absolutely horrible reception! Haven't had a call that wasn't dropped (have made calls all along the BW Pkwy. from College Park to Baltimore). Calls are dropped in the middle of conversations, and the person on the other side can't hear me. Can't make calls from my house; 0-1 bars. Have to switch to Verizon.
Absolutely no coverage inside the building, but possible to get maybe "1 bar" when standing in front of glass windows (or as other poster suggested, when sticking your head out of a window). Verizon is confirmed to work inside the building.
No reception inside the classrooms, 1 bar from time to time inside the atrium (glass ceiling) - but not even enough to deliver text messages. Above average up to full signal strength the second I step outside the building. If you spend most of your time in VMH, I would not recommend T-Mobile. Other people seem to have better luck with Verizon and Nextel - which isn't much of a surprise since Nextel installed several transmitters inside the business school.
Need to stick your head out the window to get reception (or have an ear piece!) I have noticed other peoples phones working in inside rooms. Perhaps Verizon
