Between my parents and I, we have been with US Cellular for around 12 years. I constantly hear bad reviews from friends in the area who have service through Cellular One or Nextel. I rarely, if ever, have a problem with my US Cellular service in the Cumberland / LaVale / Frostburg area. I don't travel too much outside of the tri-town area, but on occasion I make the trip up to Altoona or over to Hagerstown, and haven't had a problem with my service on the ride to each city, or any problems while in those cities. (However, I must admit that I don't use my cell phone too much when I'm out of town. When I go out of town, I'm usually traveling with my fiance--the person I call the most!) I honestly feel US Cellular is currently THE best cell phone service provider offered in this area.
Reception is good in our area. We have lived in Bel Air for two years and have not even bothered installing a phone in our home. Our problems have been with buying the cheap phones from Kyocera. The batteries give out and the phones themselfs have problems droping calls. Our friends have Motorola phones and have no problems at all with their phones. I have learnt my leason and next time intend to spend a little more and buy a better phone.
Unless your in sight of a Cell One tower forget it..Cellular One has very poor network..constant dropped calls and all around poor quality of calls. My freinds have US Cellular and it works so much better in this area.
I have Virgin Mobile service and get no reception at all in the Cumberland / Lavale area. As I go East toward Hancock / Hagerstown / Baltimore I get great coverage. Most of the people I know in the Cumberland / Frostburg area have US Cellular and have no problem at all.
For most of this area, T-Mobile doesn't function, or functions to the point that you disconnect if you turn your head. Creasptown, Bel Air, LaVale and Rawlings have the poorest reception. You can get a signal at the post office on Park street. Avoid T-Mobile if you are a local.
