My Verizon Wireless BlackBerry works great everywhere I go, best carrier I've used by far. Went on a trip down South to Alabama and Tennessee, and it worked well even in remote areas along the road. Had a lot of trouble with reception on the Sprint cellphone issued by my office. Ended up using my personal Verizon BB for work and personal business all week.

I moved to Germantown,MD in July and since then have been frustrated with T-Mobile reception and quality. I work in DC and it has been equally bad. I'm waiting for another week to get out of my contract and perhaps switch to Verizon (although their plans are relatively quite expensive).

I have been a customer of Sprint PCS since 1998. Over the years, reception has improved dramatically in the Germantown, MD area. I believe it is due to expansion of towers around the area. Reception in the Germantown / Boyds area off Rt. 118 and Clopper is great. The signal in my townhouse is very strong and I never experience any dropped calls. In fact, most people think I'm on a landline due to the high call quality. Friends that come over that subscribe to Verizon Wireless do not get a signal in my home. They have to stand outside in front of my house to get a signal (and it's weak).

I've had Sprint and Cingular. Most of my friends have either Nextel, Verizon, or T-Mobile. Only us with the Verizon phones have any service throughout my house. In fact everybody leaves their phones upstairs if we go in the basement so they can still receive their calls without them being sent straight to voicemail. Sprint was the worst I've tried with Cingular not too much better. I had to pay a cancelation fee on 3 phones to break Sprints contract because I didn't get reception anywhere I ever really needed to be. (Work, Home, Friends and Families Homes) Trust me, it was worth it.

Seems to have gotten much much worse last few months. Calls get dropped numerous times. Sometimes call doesn't go thru until I have re-dialed, and sometimes more than once. Often the other person ends up shreiking they can't hear me in the middle of a conversation. A big problem since my main reason for buying was to be able to make long distance phone calls to my Mom and instead this... and I can't use it for telecommuting long-distance either, same reason. I like the *phone* but am very disappointed not to be able to use it. Seems usually ok in other areas than the one I live in, unfortunately. When I called in for help, they told me to charge the battery--which I do, faithfully, with no improvement. Just tried the advice from one of the other reviewers here (to go to manual network)--didn't work tonight but I'll try that again.

The phone barely has any reception to begin with in the area and then cuts out repeatedly during every conversation.
