Verizon doesn't have their own service out here; you are on the "extended network", piggy-backing on US Cellular. So your caller hears the phone ring three times before it rings for you, you have to pick up within 7-9 seconds or you miss the call, and sometimes US Cellular's network is over-taxed and the call doesn't come through to you.
T-Mobile pay-as-you-go. Reception throughout Hagerstown is fine. Most Interstates are fine. Hagerstown to Balto. and Hagerstown into northern VA is fine. No dropped calls. Buy a thousand minutes for $100 with no other fees, taxes, add-ons, monthly charges or contract. Minutes are good for a year and if you don't use it all, it rolls over. T-Mobile has the best deal. We use the phone in Las Vegas and coverage there is also good. However, pay-as-you-go only works off of T-Mobile towers. No roaming.
Once you start your ascend up 419, forget it! You won't get signal until you are in Thurmont, Blue Ridge Summit, or in Adams County. And sometimes coing off of 419 into 64 you can get spotty service. I will have sometimes 2 bars, 3, or none at all.
All over Hagerstown, North end, South End, East and West, Sprint PCS delivers a strong signal. I'd be surprised to see anything less than 4 bars. Go beyond Hagerstown and you may see 3-4 bars in the Clearspring area but even that has improved thanks to some new towers. I can't remember ever having a dropped call.
