I was with Sprint for 6 years. I also worked for Cingular. But now I have been with Verizon for over 2 years and I am Very Happy. While with Sprint my service went from bad to good back to bad agian. The 1st year of Sprint I was happy, because I didn't know any better. Service worked in most areas but not all. The worst part was that I live in a basement in Potomac off of River Rd.and I could not make or recive a call from there. I had to go outside to get even 1 bar. After 2 years with Sprint they added a new tower near my home and I was then able to make calls from my house. But I still only was getting 2 bars. About 2 years later they sold that tower and then agian I was unable to make calls. Also my service went down hill. I droped calls left and right all over Maryland and the US. At this point I had just signed a new contrat and was stuck for another 2 years. While working for Cingular I heard every horror story know to the cell phone world. I was told by customers that our service sucked almost every day. Thats when I decided to look into Verizon. Now that I am with Verizon. I have had almost no drop calls and 5 bars of service almost everywhere in the DC Metro area. Verizon also has a number you can call to update your Preferred Roaming List (PRL). So if your droping calls due to a old roaming list or just a old phone all you would need to do is call *228 and hit 2 to update you PRL. Verizon hands down has the best service in the DC Metro area but that doesn't mean I get 5 bars everywhere. For example: Montgomery Village has a few low bar zones. My friends townhouse has only 2 bars but the house on her right has 5. But even with 2 bars you can make and recive a call. Verizon also has a contrat with Metro where Verizon has put towers in the tunnels. This means only Verizon can get sevice down in the Metro system. So if your looking for the best coverage in the DC Metro area go with Verizon.

The reception in the Potomac area is the worst. My employer and his family use Nextel, T-Mobile as well as Verizon and our reception sucks. It starts to drop from Darnestown Rd. and Seneca Rd. As you get to within three tenth of a mile of the River Rd. / Seneca Rd. split we have no signal at all. We have complained to all three cellular carriers and nothing has been done in a years time. The excuse used by one carrier is that the residents of the Potomac area don't want the towers taking away from the beauty of the Great Potomac. We need towers not only for the customers but what about the emergency workers.

Never had any problems with service. The only place I don't get service is in some stores inside Montgomery Mall.
