I was told a telecommunications tower was to be erected near the Chalk Point Rd area, but not as of this date. It is very frustrating trying to use the phones that I use for work. I believe Nextel to be the best when service is working correctly.

There is nearly no cell phone service provider that works great in Shady Side. I have heard things about verizon working but at the same token, I have friends who cannot make calls from our house using verizon. Nextel is the best thus far. You need to be outside of your house or upstairs to be able to use your Nextel phone successful.

Please do not read too deep into this review. I used Sprint PCS for over four years and was absolutely pleased with the quality and level of service I received. Both their billing area and their communications area treated me very well while I was with them and I would go back to them as well as recommend them to you but there is a major lack of service in Shady Side Maryland. This is because we are not located to any major highway. One bar of signal at best. At times you can make a quick call and at other times you will have no service.

My kids always say, "can we move?" because they can hardly get or send text messages. We have one corner in our house that you have to go to and hope that your message goes through. I always laugh when people say they got rid of their landline and only use their cellphones at home, that will NEVER happen!

There must have been a relatively new tower close to here that came on-line recently because service has improved to a steady 2 or 3 bars from one to NONE in the past. This is a welcome relief--we actually do have reliable cell service here now. Verizon must have finally found a site... property owners had been a major block before (no one wanted a tower close to their property). Sweet :-).

The reception here really sucks. When someone is on our dial up service computer I can not get through with our Verizon wireless phones. I guess it's verizon's way of making you get their phones, their high speed internet, and their wireless phone that don't work in our neighborhood.

I have called to get the "Can you hear me now? Guy to this location, but, to no avail.
