No AT&T reception, on different model phones. Co-workers with other service companies have excellent signal.

Purchased the iPhone for the accessibility features that no other phone has (visually impaired) and am sorely disappointed with AT&T coverage in Augusta. Can not make calls in my home in-town nor in most buildings I go to. Data is on Edge only... yet must pay for 3G with AT&T saying sometime in the fall it will be here. It is my fault for not waiting a year to get a smart phone, but I had hoped at least it would work as a voice device while waiting for data service... ... AT&T promises new towers but gives absolutely no specifics.

I would like to mirror the comments made by someone else right near my house. Ever since ATT merged with Cingular, reception has been very unreliable at my house. It moves from full strength rarely, to dropping calles, and this can happen in the space of a minute. This happens when I don't EVEN MOVE. My personal believe is that factors outside of my control are changing my reception. Either something periodically blocks my line of sight to the tower, or weather affects my signal. Either way Cingular needs to pump up the volume, because it's not reliable here.

I've had AT&T (TDMA) since 2002 and got reception pretty much anywhere, much better than my friends that had Unicel or US Cellular. But ever since Cingular and AT&T merged I get more dropped calls and low reception than ever before. I used to have perfect reception at my house which is in Augusta in the city part with no trees around, no tall buildings. Now the strength goes up and down to 1 bar, dropped calls. I work for FEDEX and travel all the way down to Woolwich, Georgetown, Boothbay, New Castle and Damariscotta and every where else in between and there are a lot of spotty areas between all those places. I am thinking about going to Cingulars GSM service or US Cellulars CDMA. I do need my phone for work and strong reception is important but I may end up sticking with TDMA until they perfect either of the other 2 systems.

T-Mobile has been the best cell phone company that I have ever had (have had US Cell, Unicel, AT&T). With all of the roaming aggreements there coverage has improved greatly in this area. If you have any problems, there customer service is there 24hrs a day and by far the best in the business. GSM service is the way to go, it's whats used all over the world (unlike CDMA). I'd recommend getting a phone that picks up both the 850 / 1900 GSM to maximize your coverage. GO T-MOBILE!

VZW has just moved into the area with a few towers now activated in the Augusta, ME region. Startup date was some time in December 2005. Reception is best along I-95 with some stretches with 5 bars. Reception also good in North Augusta near the ACC and mall. Reception fades east and west from I-95. Reception pattern has changed south of Augusta since the new towers have gone on-line. Depending on which direction you are traveling, the reception can be okay to "no service" on I-295. Going north on I-95, there is a signal to about Waterville; roaming north of there.
