I drive all over the state and have had alot of phones and reception is great, us cellular seems to be improving both signal and customer service all the time. they are wonderful! even hard areas where no one gets signal and I have no bars i've been able to make calls.

lots of static. does not work when in my basement. does work in areas where other carriers' phones do not work, though. Could be worse for central / northern Maine.

Been with AT&T / Cingular for several years. TDMA was OK, but the new GSM service is spotty at best. Large holes in service in Bangor / Brewer, forget making calls on Rte.1A, ditto south of Blue Hill into Deer Isle and Stonington. Bucksport is hit or miss unless you're on top of a hill. I could see their tower in Brewer behind the Super Walmart from my house except for the trees but I get 0-3 bars at best. Going north and northwest enters Unicel roam agreements area and service is a little better, but make calls short around Kenduskeag and Corinth. If you travel near Canada, watch out for roaming charges.

Bought cell service 3 years ago when girlfriend moved from Portland to Bangor. ATT said "hole in coverage around Augusta". BS. "hole" extended from Augusta right on to Bangor; coverage in Bangor spotty. ATT bought Cellular One, coverage vastly improved along 95, but still crummy in Bangor. Cingular bought ATT, service vastly improved all around, but still rough on islands (where I was working). About mid-June, 2005, I now have very poor coverage in Brewer, near zero coverage along 95... I assume Cingular has terminated a reciprocal use agreement with whoever built the towers along 95. CANNOT recommend Cingular (Add-charges are now truly killers... ) in light of absolutely crappy service. FYI the Siemens S46 is a difficult phone, but does everything well... especially with the addition of my "aftermarket" crunched-up 6" aluminum foil antenna.
