The only places you CAN get reception is somewhat in Cherryfield (only upstairs in my house), Harrington and Milbridge if you're almost in site of the Milbridge tower, very spotty in Machias (and US Cellular has the nerve to have one of their stores there)... then forget it until you get to Dennysville and Pembroke, there's a few miles on Rt 1 you can get reception. Then between Perry and Calais you can get on the St. John, NB tower, which is about 100 miles away but Canadian towers have stronger signals because (from what I've been told) they don't have to go by the American FCC laws (who's free?), but US Cellular will take off the roaming charges for those calls so I have to call them every single month to do just that. Then in Calais you can get on one of their towers again in most places... sometimes you get the Canadian one though. I have also been told that out in the midwest where it's flatter they have stronger tower signals and in Maine we have weaker ones because we are so hilly. Last time I looked... .New Brunswick has hills too but their STRONGER signals get through. Maybe Maine doesn't have the population base to make it "worthwhile" for the cell companies to put up more towers but they charge us all the same as everyone else. And we are so far behind Europe in using the available technology (they have been GSM for years now) it's pathetic.
