The Motorola ic 902 uses CDMA to make phone calls and " iDen " for the Direct Connect, hence the model prefix "ic". From about Lewiston up to Farmington / Wilton, the phone is as dead as a doornail.
I had US Cellular and had fairly good reception in most areas. I travel all over Oxford, Somerset and Franklin counties. I switched to Unicel GSM and have really bad reception now. I will say that US Cell was better in most areas, but Unicel has some really good areas but just not as good. Has any body tried a dual mode or tri-mode phone in Maine or do any of the Co.'s have that capability. Unicel is not even a choice for this forum. I would like to hear what Unicel users have to say.
Fortunately, I have good reception at home, but as soon as I drive south on Rt. 4, the reception from Jay to Lewiston is very spotty and mostly bad. And what is with the drop in signal between the 2 Freeport exits on 295?! I'd like to have a Blackberry but reception in Maine scares me too much right now. Not all of us live in Portland. I know... ROI is king.
There is always some service no matter what, Most of the time its an average of 3 or 4 bars sometimes better. If you go straight up route 2 (South I think), (Dixfield area) I get no service at all, and if I do, its Analog, and I'M ROAMING, and I have a regional plan that covers all of Maine and New Hampshire!
