I've been with AT&T / Cingular / AT&T for 10 years. Service has gone from fair to poor. New AT&T no improvement. Spotty reception in my house and office (South Portland waterfront). I'm trying a Verizon BB8830 and am amazed at the improvement. Can send / receive calls in my basement, AT&T had no signal. Calls in my office are clear and no dropped calls yet. Will probably switch, regardless of fees.

cingular supposedly raised the bar! AT&T was not bad, but now that I have Cingular I must learn smoke signals. service is awful. No service south of sanford,portland areas, and north of portland in the yarmouth / freeport areas.

I like Cingular the most... no no... I mean I hate Cingular the least cause I can get from portland to brunswick via 295 with only dead spot being around falmouth. Up north of boothbay its pretty sketchy. Im my prtland condo I get 3-4 bars, sometimes 2, sometimes 5.

5 / 8 bars on the 3rd floor of this house. I've never had a call dropped in Portland with Cingular, but occasionally I'll miss a word or two.

I just moved into this house, and I have to sit in a window with my head tilted to talk... .my brothers place is a stones throw and it is fine at his place. I NEVER have trouble..but in this one area I do... it is truly frustrating.

Calls are just okay. It always goes to roaming mode and I lose all quality in my call msgs takes forever to send.

My reception is really good throughout Portland and surrounding areas. It does go into roaming once you go farther north, but Sprint doesn't charge for roaming and I've still received calls while in analog roam. I get an occasional dropped call but usually the service is pretty reliable.

Reception is generally poor and calls are frequently dropped. I intend to drop Sprint as soon as my contract runs out.

Can only use phone at certain locations in house to even get two reception bars -- no reception in basement.

I've had the phone and US Cellular for about 6 weeks now. NO dropped calls yet. Good coverage all over Portland. I even get 2 bars from the center of the steel framed commercial structure I work at on Valley St. Overall, I'm very satisfied.

By far US Cellular has the best reception overall in Maine. People are talking about dropped calls and no service as a normal cell phone experience. I get about 4-5 dead spots from Kittery to Caribou, sounds like everyone else is listing 20 or so in Portland alone. Check out the map and count towers OWNED by United States Cellular v.s random corporate tower leasing management companies. As a final comment, I get reception at 60% of the campsites along the AT, how's that for rural service.

The phone can't seem to decide which service to use. Moving about, sitting still, whatever activity, the phone jumps from roam to home sporadically and frequently. The most common customer service comment boils down to I don't know how to use a cell phone, despite years of success with other carriers, phones, and yes, even this phone for about one year. The second year (last year for US Cellular and me?) has been increasingly vexing.

Sitting still on campus, this phone cycles between no service, roam service (digital and analog), and home service. Nothing US Cellular has done for me (which wasn't that much) seems to work, whether it is a mod to the phone or a trouble ticket for the system.

I have tried Sprint, At&T (Cingular), Verizon and US Cellular, and US Cellular has by far the best coverage in all of Maine. My phone works where others do not. I also have been able to make and complete calls when my signal strength shows only 1 bar of service. Switch to US Cell and be happy

most of my calls are usually dropped within a minute, and during the minute before it's dropped, I cannot hear the other person or vice versa

runs well up and down 95 / 295 some dead zones, but I remeber them with us cellular, too. thats life

Bought the phone in Phoenix, told it would work fine in Portland. No signal, and no help from Virgin. I made the mistake of buying into their month to month plan, paid the fee for hours up front, and when the service died, was told too bad. The Virgin representative suggested I consider only using my phone outside. I wonder how that would work in January in Maine!
