Maine recently scored #1 in e-Government in a study published in PA Times but mobile phone service here is sub-3rd World. Even within the State Capital reception is as laughable as it is a shame. I'm not sure if blame should be laid on the tree huggers, short-sighted greedy service providers, or communication lobbyists with too many friends in high places but it is an insult and a colossal waste of money. How many Maine citizens are wasting $600 or more each year maintaining two phone systems? Not a single company offers good value or good coverage in this area so we are forced to maintain two accounts - a land-line and mobile phone services.

My phone used to merely have horrible reception most of the time, but these past two weeks I have had NO reception. It is to the point that I am not even able to send or receive text messages because the signal is so weak. I am absolutley going to give Verizon the boot as soon as I can find something better, contract be damned.

I've been requesting and waiting for better reception in this area for 3 years but, considering the state capital in Augusta has spotty coverage I don't hold up much hope. I'd love to go 'all cellular - all the time'... if only that were possible. I could save me $600 per year if I didn't have to maintain two phone accounts! That money would help cover other expenses for Mainers.
