I have a camp on Moxie Lake in The Forks and there is absolutely NO cell coverage there. Plus, there are no land lines available there either. It is unacceptable that we can't have one or the other! There is no cell coverage anywhere in The Forks or West Forks. The closest coverage is 25 miles away in either Bingham or Jackman. The area is the whitewater rafting capital of Maine and multiple rafting outfitters take thousands of customers down a class IV river every day all summer. It is unsafe and irresponsible to not have cell coverage. Someone (?) has been "promising" us cell coverage for 3+ years, but each year passes still with no coverage. Rumor has it it has something to do with the Land Use Regulation Commission (LURC), a state agency that governs land development. I suspect they are upset at the cutting of some trees where the tower would go. Perhaps we should take some LURC officials whitewater rafting and "accidentally" lose some of them into the Kennebec Gorge. One swim down there, with flush-drowning a real possibility, and I bet the cell tower would finally appear! The situation is just unacceptable.

I live in West Forks, and have to drive 50 miles to receive cell phone service. What happens if there is an emergency, I would have no way of contacting 911!

We are very near a major white water rafting business in Maine and there I an hour or more drive to the hospital. Also we have to travel over a mile and a half over dirt roads to get to a payphone in which we have to pay.50 a minute. We need a tower near there. My husband has heart problems and I would feel very relieved if I knew I could contact emergency services. Karen Lothridge 45 Joshua Gray Rd.
