Had Nextel for almost 10 years with NO problems except for geographic problems (towers blocked by hills or valleys - normal for EVERY carrier).. However, the Sprint buyout of Nextel has caused major shifts in useage... I have a 1 hour drive from Burton to Auburn Hills (4 different routes) for work and have normally had upwards of 95-99% good coverage... Today and for the last 6 months, I now have about 30-40% of the time I cannot even get service / connectability as opposed to the 95-99% in the same areas... I have told Nextel about it and all I get is that there is nothing wrong with the system even though I have lost 60-70% of my coverage / connectability... Time to switch to someone else as soon as I figure how to break my contract...

I agree with an earlier reviewer about the Nextel Sprint merger. Since it happened my Nextel service honestly seems to have gone from "pretty darn good" the majority of the time, to downright "horrible". In the house I am usually at 3 bars,, cellular call quality is acceptable,, but, we use our phones for the 2 way capability 95% of the time, and that is the feature that has suffered the most. Constantly having to wait for a signal to go thru to whomever you are trying to radio. That annoying loud "beeeeeep" whenever it wont go through. I have had Nextel service loyally (for the radio / 2-way feature) for nearly 7 years,, and I am so totally disappointed with their service now,, that I am shopping for someone else. Oh,, their customer service is laughable if it wasn't serious to me. Just think calm cool Stepford wife persona, answering (sort of) any questions or issues you have. The mono tone script reading responses while you are trying to get across that you are VERY unhappy with their performance. Grrrr... They have no answer except that they are sorry I am not happy. LOL,, well duh, I am sorry I am not happy too! And we are paying over $125 a month for plans that were "supposed" to cost $89,, but with the added taxes and misc. added on government? fees, it just goes on and on! Very frustrated with Sprint / Nextel at the moment.

I have had nothing but poor reception since switching to Cingular from AT&T. I bought 3 new phones to no avail. My Samsung 497 is useless half the time. They are really RAISING the Bar HAH !

When idle: Signal strength stays around 2-3 bars. During phone calls: Signal strength fluctuates between 0-3 bars. Audio drops out several times during calls as short as 5min. The same problem occurs with a Motorola i60. The problem is not caused by high frequency devices within the home (ie. wireless network); however, there are major Consumer Energy power lines within 150ft.
