I live on Pennington on Outer Dr.and my T-Mobile coverage is ok I would give it a 5 but it gets a 3 where I am and thats in my house. Every where else I got I get 6 bars. T-Mobile has really improved over the last 6 months. Now there Motorola "Get More" is true for more minutes, cheaper price, and better coverage.

Drops calls in my house all the time. Sometimes I say that Cingular only misses calls in one place - where ever I am

Nextel absolutely sucks! I got an expensive plan and an expensive phone and I only wish I'd checked this site first! Do not by Nextel in Detroit.

I have had Nextel for nearly two years. In Grand Rapids and Lansing, it is typically very good. However, I recently moved to Detroit. On Wayne State's campus, I consistently get NO SERVICE on my phone, even when I'm outdoors in a relatively clear area. The only place I get even 2 bars is in my room by the window, on the 11th floor of my building. Even then, I drop calls constantly. I have been dealing with their customer service ever since I've been here, and "engineers are working on it". Having Nextel blow smoke up my ass for nearly a month is not helping the situation. Nextel is terrible in Detroit, I would say avoid it if possible. Any cell phone company is likely to screw you over, just pick the one with the best overall reception.

Poor general reception indoors and bad echo, conversations terrible as all one hears is one's own voice repeating overtop of the other end of the line. Additionally, Nextel could not port a Farminton Hills number to downtown Detroit because it was out of the area; however they assigned a number from Utah and said it was a "new Detroit area code". Several months later when (through family members) I discovered the number was registered in Utah, Nextel refused all responsibility and said it was my fault for not recognizing the number as a Utah area code. Needless to say I terminated the service, then incurring the extra penalty for early disconnect. Nextel representatives were completely unwilling to waive any fees or accept any responsibilty whatsoever.

If you work in any of the Towers at GM's Ren Center, don't think about getting ATT Wireless. My co-workers (using Sprint) have good coverage even in the 36th floor. With my GSM ATT Wireless phone every call I place is a dropped call (if I even have service at all). I have to take the elevator to the 2nd floor if I want to use my phone during work hours.

I've never had a problem with Verizon ever! I can even talk on elevators in Southfield. I went to Toronto recently and still perfect service. Verizons customer service is really there for you. For example, there were times I couldn't pay my bill on time so they took a post dated check and kept my service on. Unlike Sprint - they'll turn your phone off with no warning or anything. Verizon's plans and prices aren't competitive though, especially for Regional plans - so I switched to T-Mobile to save money for about 2 weeks and I had the worse calling reception and customer service help when I called for assistance. Tmobile's customer service reps couldn't even help me with using text messaging on my phone, they said they didn't know how because the phone was new so I'd have to call back the next day. The phone I got with T-Mobile was the absolute worse (Samsung E315), I couldn't even talk in my own home. I went back to Verizon quick, fast and hurried! I guess you get what you pay for.
