Cell signal sucks out here for all CDMA cell providers. Outside or upstairs I can usually keep a signal but I do get dropped often. Driving towards US 31, signal improves quickly.

can get a signal but sometimes drop calls. occasionally pick up evdo but usually 1x. battery life seems to be short because it's working so hard to get a signal most of the time. when in town, it's great, especially in sp. lake.

I used to be able to get reception in my basement until I recieved a new phone. Now I have no reception, no bars or anything no matter where I am. Not even on the roof. Once in a while a incomming call will make it but it get dropped as soon as you attempt to answer it. The only thing that works is text messaging. I don't know if it is just a sucky phone or if Verizon took down the tower. Either way good luck getting a signal.

Verizon Wireless is the only brand who gets service at the Grand Haven beach. Nextel / Alltel 100% drop signal anywhere near the beach. Verizon Wireless even has a cell phone tower in Lake Michigan on a floating booey (spelling). The U.S. Coast Guard uses Verizon Wireless phones here. Sprint / Nextel / Cingular / Alltel / T-Mobile are all horrible choices for Grand Haven. Verizon Wireless is as common as the sky is blue around here.

I had a Sprint phone, and recently switched to Alltel after moving to Lakeshore Dr. It works great out there where my Sprint wouldn't pick up a signal. I can even use it in my basement. :-) Plus my plan's a little cheaper, so it was a good switch all the way around.

Verizon's signal would flucuate between an average to great signal. Always enough to make and receive calls, as long as you are picking up the local Verizon tower (SID 21). What became a huge problem was my phone picking up a distant Verizon signal from Chicagoland (SID 20)! I first noticed this when the time was an hour behind. With CDMA technology, it is impossible to receive or place a call when you are using a tower at such a far distance away, even if you are receiving a good signal. Verizon should attempt to fix this problem. The only way of getting around this is knowing how to program your phone so it will only pick up a digital signal from SID 21.

Reception is very mixed. I was able to get a great signal at the US-31 / M-104 intersection and a decent signal downtown. The signal at the Meijer on US-31 and at the state park was nonexistant, however. You could only call by roaming off Verizon.

Out here where I live, there seems to me no reception with any newer phones. I have tried most of what Verizon has to offer. No one in their tech dept. seems to know beans about phones. The only phone that will work is my 3 year old Nokia 5185, but I must have it connected to an external antenna, otherwise it too will drop calls.

I travel all over West Michigan and have only experienced terrible reception in my office at home. Switching from Nextel to AT&T has been the best change I ever made in cell networks. The signal strength I get going into the malls and deep into the stores, or office buildings is unbeatable. The only reason for good rating are the little areas on Lake Michigan Drive that are dead and the area right over my house. Funny, I walk to my driveway and get excellent recption?? Regardless, I wouldn't trade it for world, we'll maybe at least a new beemer!
