Now that Verizon has purchased Alltel, the coverage in Emmet County has been excellent in many areas, especially in Petoskey and Harbor Springs, and along the highway. North of Harbor springs has some dead spots due to lack of towers and the hilly terrain. If you live on top of a hill you may get great coverage up here. The area around Boyne Highlands and Nubs Nob and northward are spotty at best. Also, eastward from here between US31 and I75 there are a lot of dead spots. Someone should put a tower on top of Boyne Highlands. This would cover a very large busy area with many highly rated golf courses and two of the most popular ski areas in Michigan, and it would fill most of the dead spots north of Harbor Springs, maybe all.

Unbelievable that there are 2 ski resorts in a 1 / 4 mile area and Verizon / Alltel can't figure out how to get service up there. (no service - 1 bar dropped calls at best) With the number of lower Michigan residents that travel in the Winter and Summer to this area I would think that Verizon would care more about steady coverage. BTW - my work AT&T cell service works almost everywhere in the Northern Lower! Verizon needs to realize that the number 1 criteria for many people is having coverage both at home and when they travel. In Michigan... . people travel north.

We can see a tower, but it's a State tower. Can't get reception for about 5 miles around.

Harbor Springs needs more gsm towers. Tdma coverage is much better than gsm. Coverage is getting worse around the airport every day. Might switch to Alltel.
