I get perfect reception in and around downtown Iron River, even in buildings. The signal fades to 2 to 3 bars in fringe areas. Beyond the fringe, coverage is spotty in between towns. Voice and data quality is high in areas that receive at least 3 bars.

Downtown Iron River has no reception (tower is reported to be active by fall) but between Iron River and Crystal Falls, the signal strength is mostly five bars (calls do drop while travelling toward Crystal Falls, down a steep hill, losing "line of sight" to the tower. You get coverage again at the bottom of the hill)

Verizon seems to be the best option for the area. Service is consistently between 3 and 5 bars. 3G data is reliable and fast compared to AT&T's much slower EDGE service. Cell sites are being put up left and right. I can't recall the last time I heard of a new AT&T cell site being built in the area.
