I have a house repeater which is the only way I could get reception for my internet data card. Now they shut the tower down and no reception even with the large repeater antenna!

Our cottage has no reception from AT&T however my Wife's phone service is Verizon which has good reception in this area. AT and T must get with it as many of the neighbors are switching to other carriers.

CDMA and GSM service in the area are poor, IDEN service is also poor. There are towers all over the place up here and more dead spots then people who have died in a major war. Main roads with no service. Whole towns with no service, or poor service if you can make a call, but you wont be making it long. Being a majority of the area with poor income level, they feel that all of us have to suffer due to this. No high speed internet available, and towers rarely offer high speed internet, if they do, connecting to them is damn near impossible. Best place for service is at Mid Michigan community college. At least they have repeaters inside, but don't go outside, or you'll drop your call.

I found this chat while browsing (slowly by force of poor coverage) in hopes of finding a provider that would give us better 3G data coverage. What I've learned by reading the majority of the comments from Gladwin to Harrison, Evart, Big Rapids, Lake, down our neck of the woods on through to Winn and towards Mount Pleasant... that it really doesn't matter who we have: until there are more towers near us, nothing is going to work worth while. We had AllTel, and of course have been forced to change to Verizon Wireless. Our feelings about help mirrors most we've read here. We did get the MiFi device from Verizon. If we drive into Lake we are pulling about 1.5MBps Down and 450KBps Up on the average. If we drive into Weidman we get 1MBps Down and 300KBps up on average. Here at the house we're lucky to get very poor intermittent 150KBps D / 110KBps U. We're awaiting a new house booster and antennas to replace what we have. Next investment will be a tower if the booster doesn't help much. After that fails I'll have to give up trying until Verizon puts up more towers or until we value the World Wide Web more than our location... we really don't want to move...

Verizon coverage is excellent in most places except at our cottage. Very disappointed. Reception used to be very good when Verizon leased space on Nextel's towers but I heard Nextel wanted too much money for a new lease so now the reception stinks!
