Reception in the house dies quickly as I go to inner rooms and the basement. My wife's old 6120 gets better reception than this new phone, making me consider switching for an LG CU500 as another 3G option. I am on the border of 3G coverage, getting EDGE reliably with 14KBps data speeds here. Outside I am in 4 or 5 bars all the time around the area, and I do feel Cingular is the best value proposition. Verizon has more areas with sufficient reception to keep a call going, but Cingular seems to have better signal strength when there is coverage. Verizon costs $20 a month more than Cingular for the same service time, plus Verizon's habit of locking out features on phones and sneaking in service charges has put me off them for the near future. Wouldl like to know more about relative reception of various phones than I can find so far...

I don't whats up with Cingular. They are suppose to have the largest calling area, and more bars in more places, but I have mixed feelings about that. The reception in my house is very poor, I am lucky if I get 2 bars. I drop calls all the time in and around the Livonia area. People always tell me that they can't hear me, and that I cut in and out all the time. The reception is good though on major freeways, execpt for 127 North in between Lansing and Mount Pleasent. I use my phone more in the Mount Pleasent area as I am a student at Central Michigan University, and the reception is better there then it is in the Detroit area, which makes no sense because Cingular is not suppose to have any coverage there. I do like that their no hassale national service plan though (no roming or long distance charges). Reception is very poor in buildings, as I don't have service at work (Laurel Park Place). Friends of mine that have Sprint and Nextel have no problems here though. I don't know if its the service or my phone, but it should be alot better. I am planning to switch to Nextel in the furture sometime, as friends of mine have had no problems with them.

AT&T went from being immaculate to utter garbage lately. I rarely receive calls nowadays because the AT&T service went downhill. I can't blame my phone because when I'm roaming, I never drop nor miss calls. Thumbs down to AT&T for what they're doing to their old customers. I'll be spending the extra $ to get Verizon if the issues aren't addressed immediately.

City of Redford / All Along 8 Mile Rd., Livonia, MI 48152 Mon Feb 12, 2007

All along 8 mile Rd from Southfield Freeway to I-75, forget about cell service or direct connect. Either, no signal or poor reception. Another dead zone is in the City of Redford from 7 mile to 6 mile along Beech Daly and 7 mile to 6 mile along Inkster Rd. All these areas have been the same for as long as I have been a Nextel customer and that's been 6 years. Nextel keeps pumping the money into the Nextel Cup series and not their own darn company. Soon to be a former customer

I continue to be dissapointed and frustrated with Nextel's poor service. Push to talk only works about 75% of the time. Transmissions that are scrambled, unable to connect, no service are all very common. Numerous dropped calls and many areas, especially when driving, no service. Horrible. I've spoken with Nextel techs, and they have an interesting fix for all of this. They make the customer take readings (tower and signal strength) (with the customer's phone) from problems areas. The customer then has to call them and tell them what the readings are. Nextel reps don't do any location testing out in vehicles (so I've been told by Nextel). That great service; make the customer do the troubleshooting.

Nextel has to be the worst phone service available. The customer service tries to lead people to believe it is our fault (in a building, behind a building, in you car, behind a tree, near mountains (in Livonia mtns. Ha... LOL)). Try to get anything accomplished through customer service and you will not get anywhere. I was told by one person that my service was bad because I was bouncing between three different towers. If that was the case I would have at least some service. The signal strength has gotten worse over the course of the last three years. When asked by customer service if I know of anyone else experiencing poor service I told them, "anyone with a Nextel phone!" The final person I spoke with said that I could switch to Sprint. When I asked him about pricing he gave me amounts of at least double what I am paying now, what a joke. According to service reps. there are no plans to build any new towers in the area. I think the company is hoping everyone will get fed up, pay to get out of their contracts and Sprint can drop Nextel altogether. If you look at the coverage map for Nextel the area of Southeast Michigan is covered, I think an employee spilled the ink bottle on the map before it went to press. Nextel has to be the worst service, and I would not recommend it to an enemy.

My Nextel experience has been great so far. Maybe it's the phone, but I have not had any of the issues I hear other Nextel subscribers complaining about.
