Great reception all through Marquette, including out to Walmart (sometimes even in the store). Also get decent reception when hiking the surrounding areas
Having T-Mobile I don't have service but they have free roaming and I can pick up Cell One, great service. Not recommended for prepaid T-Mobile devices as you may not get roaming. You will experience some service problems due to weather related issues but usually it is not an isolated incident and more than a few will witness it.
For not haveing a home network up here I tend to feel that I get better reception than some Alltel Customers. I get reception anywhere in Marquette... even at Walmart, but not IN Walmart. But that's a large metal building. I loose coverage a little out of harvey for about 20 minutes and I loose it for about 2 minutes on the way to Negaunee. Like I said, my plan is from the Grand Rapids area downstate but I get excellent coverage up here.
Alltel has best coverage on the NMU campus. Helps when the tower is located on top of the science building. Marquette city limits has very good Alltel coverage, with the usual dead spots in valleys and thick tree coverage. (It's the UP, what do people expect?) Signal strength outside the city limits is good, again with the usual dead spots in thick forested areas and valleys
