I have an inexpensive phone through Net 10-not sure of carrier-think its AT&T. I never have nay problems with any type of cell coverage -Live in Okemos, work in Lansing. Phone reception / access perfect at all times in all areas, use it in Charlotte, Alpena, Chicago, Detroit, Marquette, Mt. Pleasant, and everyplace inbetween-never a problem.

Finally got my dream phone (iPhone 3GS) and jumped from my longtime carrier (Verizon) to AT&T. Got the two iPhones home (one for my wife) only to discover zero signal from anywhere in my own home--one mile from the store. I don't mean a bad signal--I mean NO signal. We could not make or receive any calls nor send or receive text messages. Both iPhones went back within 24 hours and AT&T mercifully refunded all our money. Nice people, incredible device, terrible network. Back to Verizon I go.

we had Verizon before ATT, and never had a problem with cell coverage. now its nearly impossible to get a signal at home, and its somewhat better in East Lansing / MSU. its really the only drawback with the iPhone, but its a substantial one.

The ATT / Cingular reception is very poor in many spots in Okemos. I often have dropped calls on these streets in particular.

I switched my whole family to Cingular, mostly for the rollover minutes, whch has worked out well. No extra minutes to pay for so far. However, the reception at our house is TERRIBLE! We only get reception in our front yard, not in the house, and not in the backyard. We have to run outside to answer the phone, and we have missed important calls. The reception we do get outside is weak and variable, with lots of dropped calls. After we realized the extent of the poor signal, I asked the Cingular store, and THEN they look at a reception map and give us the "you're in between cell towers, you live in a valley, our towers are used too much by MSU students, we're building more towers, etc, etc.," story. Why didn't they tell us that when they sold us the phone plan! I will be looking into switching when our plan ends, but I'm not sure any company is any better in our area. At least I know to ask to see the reception map before I choose another plan!
