Reception highly variable. Will drop from 5 bars to 1 bar and stay there for hours at a time. Many dropped calls and failed text messages. Have even lost all AT&T service for several days, being forced to rely on Rogers service. Data service so slow that pages / downloads frequently time-out. Almost zero coverage inside most buildings in town. Eagerly awaiting the end of my contract to switch carriers.

You have to be very careful when using your phone in this area because sault ste marie, mi is just a hop skip and a jump away from Canada. Verizon bounces off of towers on both sides of the river and can switch from extended network to roaming in an instant! If you are thinking about visiting or maybe even moving up to the Soo I would contact Verizon about roaming charges and / or switch to alltel. They are the main provider up here and provide excellent service!

No reception whatsoever. Some calls get through, however none can be answered. Reception dies past WalMart, or on the other side, by the Recycling center.

There is an Alltel dealer in Sault Ste. Marie and yet I have no service in over half the town... the only place that I have found good service has been in the parking lot of KFC...

Alltel seems to work great around the Sault. When downtown by the Sault Locks some people seem to have issues and prefer to go with celluer one, who seems to have better coverage there. For the most part I have heard more people complaining about celluer one's coverage then Alltel's. Since Alltel went Digital in the Sault I have had no problems weather I was downtown or not. I like my Alltel service and have no problems with reception. It seems that when I don't reception (weather I am in the Sault or not even in Michigan for that matter) no one else does either.
