I don't really use my phone to talk to anyone much anymore because I cannot have a conversation due to terrible coverage, missing half of what is said, having to repeat myself, dropped calls. It is infuriating. It's better outside than inside, but still not good. Texting is the only thing I do on my phone anymore at home. Data is really slow - maps take forever to load, browser is old school dial-up slow or worse, I can't send out emails from gmail because it takes too long to send and times out. Messages would sometimes get to people the next day. It's embarrassing, so I stopped trying. Basically, I pay $90 / month for a text message service. Thinking that Iphone might be better, but not holding my breath.

I don't drop very many calls, which is good. And I usually have 3 bars on average. But I have to stay on the EDGE network. 3G coverage in this area is bad. When I try 3G, I get maybe 1-2 bars. Sucks that I have a 3g phone but I can't take advantage of it in this area. ):

I always have signal, even in buildings. In the EMU Student Center I always have 5 bars while my friends on Sprint and Verizon have to ask ME to make calls for them.

On occasion I lose some signal strength if I go into the basement, but usually as long as I stay upstairs in my home the signal strength stays strong.

Have had the phones for 7 months, and only one day have I experienced bad reception in the house. Signal strength varies, but calls don't get dropped. With this particular phone, Cingular reception is excellent.

Literally, every call I make, every call I receive is ended by a drop. I basically cannot call out or receive calls in my apartment. I can't use my phone at work. I hate it. I don't know why, but the past 6 months have been the worst cell phone reception out of the past 5 years. I hate cingular.

So I guess this "could" be a badly designed phone, but in my opinion its the network. This phone uses the GSM network of nextel, and I just think all the GSM networks sucks... from looking at the reviews all over the net, not just here, you could conclude that any and all GSM networks are weak and they suck. However, you could also conclude that AT&T's GSM network WAS strong, and well managed and maintained, but after Cingulars Techs took over, service went to pot. My contract is up soon, I'll be switching carriers. Sprint or Alltel seem to be getting good ratings in the ypsi area. P.S.~Don't get a Motorola i730 if your life depended on it. My buttons fell off after 8 months, and the phone shuts off and turns itself on without me touching it(once a month)... and sometimes it will not dial a number. I HAVE to reboot the phone to get it to dial.

My reception is usually good. It's good inside the house and even in the basement I can talk without much distortion to the voice.

We've had AT&T for 4 years and now Cingular because they bought AT&T. We have always been on family plans and have had Motorola and Nokia phones at the same time. I really like AT&T, never had any reception problems or dropped calls. Now that we were switched to Cingular everything has changed for the worse. Reception is terrible and dropped calls are an every day experience. My contract runs out in May and I'll defintely be switching carriers. I'm thinking T-Mobile but not sure yet.

I am a sales rep. and thiis area sucks for everyone of the carriers that I have used. T-Mobile has been the worst so far. Sprint was bad as well, AT&T was a little better (not much), Alltel has been the best and thats not saying much. Nextel would be ideal for the industy that I service but is scetchy in BFE areas of Michigan. Verison is next on my list I will update later, E
