I just switched to a new Galaxy Nexus 4g phone and have more dropped calls all over the Twin Cities area than I have in all my years of cell phone usage since 1997. Absolutely horrible service. I highly recommend staying away from this particular set up. I am about to go to the mat with these charlatans and their silly 4g nonsense. What a joke.

Like an ekg on a dead body, flat line. Imagine my suprise when I found out that the tower is less than 1 / 2 mile away. Meanwhile a side by side comparison with the wifes Sprint reception works perfect 5 out of 5 bars. Explaination given by Verizon was (1) that 62 corridor was low laying. (2) Also something about a church blocking the signal ( does anyone know of a high rise church?). (3) Verizon also said the height of towers being extra low in height do to proximity of airport. I do run a business off my phone and just today missed 2 calls from potential clients. Fortunately they left a voicemail which chimmed in later. As a contractor first contact is very important and can make a difference between having or not having work. I did get a voicemail from Verizon (cause I missed that call too) saying they would give a 50% discount on there network extender. This to me is admitting guilt and that they have a problem of not being able to fulfill their part of the contract. heres my problem with trying to stay a loyal customer; telling the wife I need to spend $150 just to use my phone. as you can imagine that is not going to go over well. AT ALL!

I have had Verizon for 8 years now. And the last year and a half have been hell. Started a buiness in a one level building. Service was fine at the time. Had a Blackberry Storm. Then all of a sudden I would have a voicemail and my phone never rang. Messages wouldn't send or all of a sudden I would get 5 messages. I use my cell phone as my primary line. Put up with it for a few months before I could upgrade. Then got the Samsung Fascinate. No problems what so ever! Loved the phone... about a month ago... .It ALL started again. Customer Service sucks. Been over everything 500 times. Oh..if I wanted to, I could buy a $250 service extender... um... ..This is your issue. Not mine. My clients have Verizon who sit in my chair and have no issues. My Co-worker 5 feet from me has Verizon and has NO issues. WTF?! I'm so over it I dont even know what to do anymore. HELP!

Many attempts to get Verizon to fix the problem. Not many dropped calls, but too choppy to effectively hold a conversation. Had Verizon for years, and signal strength has definitely deteriorated within the last few years. I don't even bother answering my phone in the house anymore. I wait for voicemail and retrieve with land line. Signal's no better outside either! I wanted them to give me a network extender for free. They said no, that I could buy one or get out of my contract early! They'd rather waive early termination fees and future service on 3 lines than give me a $200 piece of hardware to keep my business? WTF? My most recent attempt to contact them was through a Verizon Wireless Authorized Dealer almost 3 months ago with no response!

I used to live in Detroit, MI where my Verizon coverage was superior to all other carriers. I could make phone calls in elevators, basements of large buildings, and other places where other carriers couldn't get signal in. Even in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, my reception was amazing. I recently moved to Minneapolis and now I can't place calls from home or work with any consistency. My signal strength vacillates between 0 and 2 bars and calls drop frequently. Even when the call doesn't drop, the call gets choppy and electronically garbled. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the other carriers do any better in Minneapolis which makes me wonder if state / city bureaucracy is preventing carriers from putting up more towers or increasing the signal strength from their current towers. I don't particularly want to switch carriers anyway. I just want to be able to reliably place calls from home and from work.

Verizon has a lot of coverage but the quality of the calls aren't always the best. I had Verizon for years and got tired of calls breaking up when talking with someone. You could only hear parts of words so it kind of went like this... I real Like th way phon works I really don't the recept that well. So... Switched. This is very typical of a CDMA carrier and it's just due to the technology. Calls with great reception is crystal clear, however when you are in weaker areas the call breaks up as opposed to just dropping. I would much rather have the call drop than to try and decipher what someone is trying to tell me. This is extremely annoying. I travel throughout the state and upper midwest and have used all the major carriers in the area and have had the best luck with AT&T and T-Mobile even though they both have their limits. Verizon would kick butt if they would improve their existing weak reception areas but don't hold you breath on that one. CDMA is also weaker at penetrating buildings as the frequency wave is shorter and breaks up sooner. Yes I have a technical background in the wireless area so I am giving you fact. I wish companies would let you try a phone for a day without having before siging two years of your mobile life away. It would make clients much happier. Also... Don't test cell reception in the Winter months when the leaves are off the trees. Do it during the summer months during full bloom for a true test. I encourage you to ask your local sales consultant about this information. Most won't know but I have lived it. Good Luck with whomever you end up with!

Reception is sub-poor most anywhere in the cities, but have to admit at the State Fair yesterday and we both had full bars. I have friends that have Verizon and their phones are getting coverage nicely... it is my opinion that this phone is a very poor design. It runs WindowsCE so that may be most of its problem. ;)

I've gotten software updates, etc., but friends that also have Verizon have problems down in this area (South Minneapolis). It is also really bad around 35th and Cedar. Sprint is no better. I finally was able to get out of my Sprint contract several years ago. I couldn't even keep a call going long enough to make my full complaint to customer service. It kept getting dropped. I had to call Sprint from my land line. I think they got the gist of the problem. Ugh! I may try T-Mobile or a different carrier. Isn't it something that you could get better reception through the hills of Utah or through some rural area in Minnesota than in the city of Minneapolis?

We used Verizon for years in Uptown Mpls. with great results--four or five bars all the time and rarely did we have a dropped call. Now that we've moved to Longfellow we can't make calls from home or, for that matter, anywhere within a 1 / 2 mile range from our house. After trying to convince us that the problem is with our phones (which are six months old) we finally had a manager at Verizon tell us this is a "known issue" and that they plan to install a new tower to serve this neighborhood "sometime within the next two years." In the meantime I think we'll be forced to get a landline or, perhaps, tying coffee cans together with string, which would provide better reception than we receive from Verizon.

One lousy bar in the house, sometimes 2 out in the alley. Verizon recommends 'updating the phone's software' which I've done twice and which resulted in squat for improvement. Impossible to have a conversation for more than 15 seconds, break-up is so bad. Sometimes turning the speaker phone option on helps, go figure. East side of Central is even worse, lost calls are the rule, not the exception.

I have tested phones from five manufacturers here and the only constant is the miserable reception Verizon insists on providing me and my wife. As of Dec. 19, my signal qualityon all three LG VX 5200 phones has fallen off a cliff. Zero or 1 bar, dropped calls. Verizon says that it is a "known" problem (too many users and too few towers) but that there are NO plans to fix it. I am ticked off as I just renewed my two year contract in Sept. after getting good service the previous two years.

Using the Motorola v60, 720 and sierra wireless aircard I had very poor useage of my phone. I have been using celluar since 1993 starting with US West cellular, moving to cellular one than back to US West cellular and finally with Verizon when they bought US West. found customer service to be very crappy, when I called US West people very insulting didn't change with verizon, sales and advertising lie. Verizon never changed it plus digital reception and transmission just plain BAD compared to analog. No power or battery life. I just use digital cause its cheaper. Finally dropped Verizon completely about 2 years ago. Went with t-mobile. still digital but been around longer. Have to see how it goes.

Most of Kenwood neighborhood has poor reception, phone does not even reliably ring when standing outside. Large area bounded by Mt Curve, Hennepin and Cedar Lake is bad (not sure how far south). Verizon has checked (very reluctantly) and reports their equipment if fine, there is nothing more they can do. We have 5 differnt cell phones, all have same reception. I'm looking for a repeater / booster for my house.

You would think that a major carrier like Verizon would have good signal the whole length of a major interstate like 494... sadly... no such luck. Verizon is turning out to be worse that most of the carriers I've dealt with. So dissapointed.

Verizon coverage is horrible in Minneapolis. 4 out of 5 calls are dropped and if they aren't dropped, the signal is so bad that a conversation is impossible. Similar to others that have posted, I called Verizon and they told me to buy a tri-mode phone. I think I'll be switching to T-Mobile...

Reception is better in other twin city locations but it is still very poor. About half of my calls fail do to poor signal. Can you hear me now? NO! I think that I am going to try T-mobile.

Very poor reception outdoors, and none indoors in the general area. Phone rarely gets more than a bar of signal strength in bout a 1mi radius of here. Too bad it's where I live and work. Tried updating phone firmware monthly with *228, replaced the phone, and complained to Verizon many times about the quality of service - yet they insist everything is fine. I cancelled and went to Nextel after trying a friend's phone for a day.

Verizon reception in the greater NE Mpls 'Hood is pretty lousy. From about 24th Ave NE, up to 37th, and from Central to Stinson is really bad. The tower must be on the West side of that area, because the coverage is better on the west to almost non-existent on the east side. I usually drop a call at Stinson and 37th, and also at Johnson and St. Anthony Blvd.

Just superb coverage within the Twin Citites metro. Dropped calls are very, very rare with this service in this area. I do have an issue with calls not ringing, and going directly into VM, but I think that is a common issue with my phone, not their network. My only network complaint is that VMs can sometimes not showup on my cell phone for up to 3 hours after they are left during peak usage times. Althought this has not happened to me within the last 6 months, they may have fixed this issue. Signal strength is 4 bars on first floor, 5 bars on second.

As a delivery working out of downtown Minneapolis, I couldn't ask for anything more. Works much better than expected inside most buildings, be they high-rises, 100 year-old warehouses, or the HCMC complex. As you get out of downtown, there are some weaker zones in some neighborhoods where a Verizon phone might not work reliably indoors, but outdoos, having a usable signal is a rule unbroken within Mpls city limits. (That can be expected with any provider - that's what trial periods are for.)
