Reception is exceptional. My Verizon phone had about 1-2 bars here, with Cingular I was lucky if I got 1 bar, with T-Mobile I always have at least 3, usualy 4 or 5. They are also cheaper then the compitition. I'm loving T-mobile!

Absolutely ridiculous reception in a major metropolitan area. No bars whatsoever at my home address. My reason for owning a cell phone at all is medical, and it is obvious this company has no desire to improve on the "NETWORK" in our area, consequently my affiliation with Verizon will be curtailed. Verizon is aware of the poor coverage in this area and has offered to allow me to exit my unexpired contract with no cost to me.
I can expect a dropped call every 5 minutes EACH time I make a call from my home. This is getting worse all the time, not better. I will be researching a new carrier.
A year ago I loved both Cingular service and reception, I even convinced by poor husband to switch from Sprint to save some $$. For the last year my reception has steadily gone from bad to worse. I used to use my cell phone all the time, close to 1300 minuntes per month. Now my reception is so bad I can't stand to use 350 minutes, and of that probably 80% is spent saying, "What? Hold on, I can't hear you," to the poor victims that dial my cell number. Around 75% of my calls don't go through the first time, around 75% drop completely or go silent for long enough that one of the ends hangs up. I get no reception at the major intersection chosen and so little at my house that I can't use my phone there. I work from home and used to use my cell instead of tying up the home phone, now when people call I ask them to call my house instead.
In my basement, I am the only one out of all my friends who get coverage, (they have T-Mobile and verizon). I get good reception way out miles away from ely. I am happy with the coverage, but I hate Sprint as a company! Horrible!
Cingular had great reception last year. What happened? I have very, very poor reception in my hood (the higest natural point in all of Mpls!). Dropped calls in the home or yard are the norm. Goodbye soon, Cingular! Customer service is so so. They tell you to cycle your phone on and off to reset how it searches for towers (doesn't help), but if you complain, they'll comp you for some minutes. Note to Cingular: Raise the rates, if you have to, but if you don't increase the coverage, I'm gone. Your Cendant discount (Coldwell Banker Burnet) means NOTHING if your network drops 3 out of 4 calls!
My reception is so bad that I find myself forced to go outdoors to talk. I live in a tall tower, but everyone else I know here has a cell and fewer problems. I get a loud whir sometimes, clicks, and also some weird problems like voicemail and text messages taking hours to come through. I am shopping for new service and have been so burned that I think I will stick with pay-as-you go because if my new phone is this crummy, I will have to get out of my contract. It's just not worth it.
