Almost no reception outside, no reception inside. When I go to a Verizon store and ask about new phones, they tell me reception is very good in all neighborhoods in 55448. When I tell them about my current problem they recommend I buy a signal booster for my house ($200 to 300). Great! With Verizon they want you to put up your own tower!
I live on the second floor of a duplex and my signal bars fluctuate between 0 and 5. Calls over 5 minutes long get dropped 80% of the time. After going into an At&T store and being (falsely) told that I need to upgrade my phone because it doesn't support the 1900mHz band (it does) they wouldn't register my reception complaint. Bye bye AT&T. I just wish I knew who to get service from. My sister lives nearby at 24th Ave and 38th St.and seems to have good luck with Verizon.
I live on the south side of NMMC, and coverage is DISMAL! 2 bars at best. What a joke. It's the same way at my place of employment in Plymouth too, BTW. I'm switching to T-Mobile as I type this.
This section of NE Mpls seems to be stuck between several low power AT&T towers. The signal will bounce between 3 out of 5 bars down to 0 before resting on 0 to 1 bars. Calls fail to send or receive about 85% of the time. I have opened a ticket with AT&T. If you are reading this and you live in NE Mpls and you are an AT&T customer, please call them and open a ticket so they get the message!
Sprint worked fine the first few years of my contract. In May 07 my phone died when it was less than a year old ($350+ Treo 650... it had sooo many glitches.) They also sold me a $79 bluetooth headset and was later told by a store rep that it would 'not work with a Treo.' Nice sales job guys. I purchased new Treo $650 (for $35.) Horrific service ever since. I have lost hundreds of dollars in business due to voicemails 'appearing' after weeks, sketchy IM service and nearly every call drops. It is impossible to complete a business call. Sprint is an embarassment. I can't even use it in my own home. I spent no less that 48 hours on phone with Sprint (using land line.) I was told there are 3 towers 37th and Bryant, 38th and Clinton and Pleasant / Portland. They took one down and told me it would be back up in July. Then changed it to Fall..then said they never took tower down, then said it would be up in 08. So I have a $350 phone FULL of business contacts I cannot use. They sent me another phone to try (Katana DLX.) Impossible to transfer all my contacts until I buy $50+ in software and cables for the DLX. My frustration level is OFF THE CHARTS. You are on hold for no less that 20 minutes whenever you call, and then get transferred, cut off or passed off to someone in another country whom you cannot understand. For what I pay a month, this is a complete rip off. WHY TAKE DOWN A PHONE TOWER W / OUT SOLID PLANS TO REPLACE IT? At least keep your stories straight as I've caught you lying to me several times already.
T-Mobile has improved significantly - recently I even get reception in the building elevator. Keep up with the tower expansions. Just last year over half of my calls were dropped inside my building.
Always seem to get good reception here. There's a spot closer to the Nokomis Coffee Shop where I ALWAYS drop calls, but it's just a few block there. Sometimes I'll have full bars and the phone just won't ring when a call comes through, but that only happens about once a month.
The Alltel service has been very pleasing in the Mpls / St Paul metro areas. I have been able to place calls and have never had a situation where it hasn't worked well.
