Only bad areas are in underground parking ramps, etc. Verizon has a good downtown coverage, but I'm not sure their high prices are worth their data plans.
if I get in or even near the elevator in the building at 800 washington Ave. the signal gets dropped. and does not return until I leave the elevator. and sometimes the building
Sprint does not have good service in Northeast Minneapolis. Sitting at my desk, my phone would go from 2 bars to suddenly dropped call all the time. Then when I call back a second time, I can be on the phone without it dropping again. More recently, I've found that sitting at the same place, that my phone can't even make an outgoing call as it could before. It will read "dialing" and finally just quit.
Absolutely terrible reception, many dropped calls, calls that can't go through. Steady decline in service / bars since Cingular bought ATT Wireless. Worst during peak usage time (evenings and weekends). Terrible static. When I call Cingular to complain, they tell me to call back on a landline because they can't hear / understand me since I'm breaking up so badly. Also abysmal customer service.
As a delivery working out of downtown Minneapolis, I couldn't ask for anything more. Works much better than expected inside most buildings, be they high-rises, 100 year-old warehouses, or the HCMC complex. As you get out of downtown, there are some weaker zones in some neighborhoods where a Verizon phone might not work reliably indoors, but outdoos, having a usable signal is a rule unbroken within Mpls city limits. (That can be expected with any provider - that's what trial periods are for.)
Qwest rollover to Sprint towers in late August. Since then have terrible reception. Previously I could call from three floors below street level from freight elevator and not be dropped. Now 70 ft. from front door off Marquette can't keep two bars on phone. At recommendation of Qwest CS will try other phones, Nokia 3586i and 6225, Motorola T720 and T731, Sanyo SCP-8100 for better reception. If no improvement I'm going to Nextel or Verizion.
I use to be with Qwest and always had good reception - but since I got my iphone Im stunned by the number of dropped calls I have with the ATT network - every day, several times a day calls get dropped - I never had this problem with other phones in the past. I'm not sure if it is partly the fault of the iphone but I have a friend who also have an iphone and he experiences the same thing. I live in Summit HOuse Condos which is all concrete and a high-rise and reception in the house it not good at all - better outside for sure - but even then - the dropped calls drive me nuts. But I love the phone too much to part with it right now.
