Sprint

4 Out of 5 (4 stars) | Silver Lake Area, Rochester, MN 55906 |

Never had a dropped call in the 13 months that I've been using Sprint. Occasionally, my reception is a bit muddled, but that seems to be only on calls to a couple of specific people, so I suspect the problem is on their end, not mine.

AT&T

2 Out of 5 (2 stars) | Salem Heights Lane | Salem Rd., Rochester, MN 55902 |

I live at the top of hill with minimally-obstructed views to the south. Using my iPhone 5 on AT&T, I receive only about 50% of incoming calls and even then have to walk around my house to find a spot where the caller can understand me. It was slightly better with the iPhone 4; but it's not the phone. In actual metropolitan areas, I get spectacular reception and audio quality. Just below the hill, basically between my house and Bamber Valley School along Salem Road, I get 100% dropped calls. I've literally never had a call that stayed connected rounding that curve on Salem Road. I've been in the house for 7 years with AT&T. Coverage has always been poor; but it's getting worse. in any case, ATT not recommended.

Verizon

2 Out of 5 (2 stars) | 28th St.N.W. | 18 Ave., Rochester, MN 55901 |

Starting in March rreception at my house has dropped off a lot! Before this spring I had no complaints. Now my signal fluctuates constantly. Very unhappy with Verizon and their "best network". I have had them at my house checking signals and they said it was fine. We four phones all dropping calls often. No explanation at all to why.

55th street nw has difficult reception. have had a technician out to my home twice, switched to a different PRL (preffered roaming list) however it did not fix the problem. considering switching to a different carrier, however sprint, AT&T and t have all had problems as well. phone used to work great as midwest wireless and all-tell... however Verizon phone does not work as well ? go figure ?

Sprint

5 Out of 5 (5 stars) | 3rd St. Nw, Bottom of Hill Near Judd Park, Rochester, MN 55901 |

Very few problems anywhere in town even in stores, basements, etc. going north south or west seems to stay great, and major roads to the east are fine, but if you get off the major roads you may start to have some problems, overall, far better than att(on Iphone 3G) verizon(may have changed recently, three years ago on Samsung A950) and tmobile(shares AT&T towers), don't know about alltell though... BTW: I wish AT&T had better coverage, Iphone is awesome but had so manny dead spots I had to return it...

AT&T

1 Out of 5 (1 star) | 60th Av SW | Stenbrae Ct., Rochester, MN 55902 |

No reception in our house, and minimal reception in our driveway. Very disappointed in AT&T. A new cell tower recently went up at intersection of 60th Av SW and 20th St. and I'm trying to find out the carrier so I can switch to them. Township says it's Sprint, but Sprint phones get no better reception in our house than AT&T. Frustrating... ..

US Cellular

5 Out of 5 (5 stars) | 41st St. | Hwy. 52, Rochester, MN 55901 |

I just moved to Rochester, Minnesota and signed up with U.S. Cellular (my friend in Wisconsin recommended them). I've had nothing but full signal strength, zero dropped calls, and great call quality. U.S. Cellular has a huge presence in Wisconsin and I'm pretty sure they roam off Verizon's towers in other areas. I've not ventured very far outside the city yet, but I'm extremely pleased with them thus far!

Verizon

5 Out of 5 (5 stars) | 16th ST SE, Rochester, MN 55904 |

I have Verizon Wireless and I have NEVER dropped a call, or had no bars. I have intentionally tried to loose bars but I cant. I get clear digital service everywhere in Rochester and surrounding areas and my mother gets the same and is a property inspector that inspects properties all over southern Minnesota. If Verizon doesn't have a tower there, the phone will use a Midwest Wireless tower and Midwest gets coverage almost EVERYWHERE! Too bad their plans, services, and customer care SUCK! So basically, Verizon is the best route to go. Plus, Verizon has the "Test Drive" feature that allows you to test out a Verizon phone for 30 days and if you don't like it, return it without any charge for the phone calls you made! Just return it, no questions asked. Pretty cool huh? give it a try.

AT&T

2 Out of 5 (2 stars) | Rochester Through Austin, Rochester, MN 55901 |

I wanted to give Cingular / AT&T a 1 for Poor but I figured that would be too harsh. I currently commute from Rochester to Austin to work and drop calls constantly on the way to and from work, throughout Austin, and in many spots in Rochester. For a company that boasts the fewest calls dropped nationwide they sure aren't doing a very good job. On top of that they typically over-bill me. I'm switching companies soon... not sure where I'll go. It seems as though cell phone carriers are getting worse as time goes on and not improving much if any at all.

Sprint

1 Out of 5 (1 star) | Hwy. 14 E | County RD 11 (50th Ave) SE, Rochester, MN 55904 |

I am lucky to get any Sprint reception at my house at all. I live 5 blocks from Hwy. 14. As soon as I get to 14 heading either towards the college or towards Eyota I get plenty of signal. But at my house the reception is HORRIBLE!. I have called and emailed several times about getting it fixed and my reply was well we sent a technician out there and the cloest cell phone tower (AT RCTC) is over used and can't reach to the valley where I live... . I have an idea why isn't there a tower added in the valley or in Chester or somewhere by the Gun club. Come on SprintThis is getting old.

Not so great. I don't get service in my own house (in Foxcroft), except occasionally 1 bar in certain rooms upstairs. However, I randomly went to some place in the middle of nowhere in Minnesota (about 45 min. away from here) and I had 5 bars. So the service is pretty random to where you are. If you live in the Foxcroft area though, I would not suggest it.

AT&T

3 Out of 5 (3 stars) | Country Club Manor, Rochester, MN 55901 |

The reception has improved recently. I believe there are new towers on the north side of the city that provide much better coverage than a year ago. The signal still seems somewhat variable, even when sitting on the couch, but in general it is 'good enough' most of the time. The IBM parking lot and the RAC seem to get decent signals.

AT&T Wireless (GSM)

2 Out of 5 (2 stars) | 55th St. NW | 44th Ave. NW, Rochester, MN 55901 |

Reception varies based on weather but for the most part this area has dead spots. AT&T told us with GSM the reception should improve but so far it has been marginal. We upgraded to GSM about 2 months ago. Future towers will hopefully help.

AT&T Wireless (GSM)

3 Out of 5 (3 stars) | Northern Hills Golf Course, Rochester, MN 55901 |

My reception varies. What I have found from doing research, AT&T GSM is sharing a 1900 Mhz PCS license with Midwest Wireless at this point. Therefore, reception is going to be pretty spotted at this point (since 1900 Mhz reflects off of the landscape compared with 850 Mhz... hence the choppy calls). If they add towers, that would be one solution. However, in a year or two when they start migrating 850 Mhz channels to GSM, the reception in this area should improve greatly! The question is, when will that be? It all depends how many people convert to GSM. The 850 license is committed to providing service for customers and roaming agreements for TDMA and analog customers.

2 Out of 5 (2 stars) | Country Club Manor, Rochester, MN 55901 |

Reception seems to vary greatly, even if I'm not moving. When I'm getting good reception, the calls are fantastic, but when the reception fades, speech gets a bit choppy.

Nextel

4 Out of 5 (4 stars) | Country Club Manor, Rochester, MN 55901 |

Consistently good reception at my home up at the top of the hills in Country Club Manor. Average reception at the RAC and the IBM parking lot. Inside major buildings like Target, etc., reception falls off, but is usually still usable.
