I've had my iPhone with AT&T for over 2 years. I always upgrade my phone each year and I've never had an issue. I live in the NE metro and go out as far as Hugo and Stillwater on a regular basis. The only time I experience dropped calls or loss of reception is in the middle of a very large store, namely Walmart in Stillwater. I can go to the mall, including Mall of America and all other stores with zero reception issues. Not sure what everyone is complaining about. My iPhone 4, which is supposedly notorious for dropped calls, has served me perfectly aside from the one store.

Coverage is really spotty here. Calls drop all the time in my home, but less so outside. Kind of sad that you have to go outside to be able to use the phone. Even then you still worry about dropping, usually always happens during the important ones too.

Bought an iPhone and basically it is worthless in this area if AT&T is your carrier... We traded our iPhones in for blackberry (s) and discovered it wasn't a phone issue. AT&T is completely inadequate in St. Paul. We had Sprint in this area for 7 years and NEVER had a dropped call and excellent reception. Sadder but wiser.

Very poor reception, if at all, in the Mac-Groveland area. I lived here four years ago and then relocated out of the country and now just returned. I assumed that AT&T would make improvements in the area's coverage over the past four years but sadly that is not the case. This is a major inconvenience since neither my husband or I, or anyone who visits with an AT&T number can reliably receive or maintain phone calls. I've called AT&T and they say we are in a "good" coverage area and they cannot guarantee coverage inside homes. Note that this is a problem even when driving in the area.

ATT has no towers I can find in Woodbury. They may be using ONE other available tower under some kind of lease. For Woodbury, mid-to-upper-class neighborhood, ATT has HORRENDOUS service in Woodbury! I can barely receive calls at home and many times I can't call out or get any web service worth mentioning. Their obvious shunning of the Woodbury area is unacceptable and unforgivable!

I've been an iPhone user since they were first released, now using iPhone 3G. Reception fluctuates between 'no service' and 1 or 2 bars anywhere in or around my home, and my phone doesn't ring while I'm home- I just get voicemails hours later whenever I leave. We've had to add a landline because the iPhones do not work here. Spotty coverage all over busy Mac-Groveland / Highland Park / University areas. Lots of dropped and failed calls, failures on text messages over and over again. Customer service has never been helpful - filed many complaints and yet AT&T maintains that we are in a "very good reception area" and that it must be a problem with the device. Swapped out devices, SIM cards, with no luck. Have had other AT&T phones (non iPhones) also not work around here. Can't wait to switch back to Big Red when our contracts are up. If you live in St. Paul and want an iPhone, I recommend you wait until the 4G is available on another network, or just buy the iPod touch, because you'll have a hell of a time using it as an actual phone.

For whatever reason T-Mobile starting getting bad. The only thing now is, two days into this AT&T service with an iPhone, its been bad! Wow! How can they call this a service? What I'm I paying for? AT&T Sucks!

The signal comes and goes, mostly goes. I have to drive a mile away sometimes just to make a phone call. Also, cannot make a single call in DOWNTOWN MINNEAPOLIS. When traveling, forget about your phone. Cities you'd think would be a sure thing for a good signal are very few. Cingular is just generally very horrible.

After I had my Cingular phone for a while the reception started disinigrating from bad to worse..being that eventually I could only use it for 911 service. I could not get service in St. Paul or Minneapolis or any of the suburbs. I also know someone who has Cingular and her phone never rings... the calls always go directly to voice mail. Complaining to Cingular doesn't do any good, they don't care.

I have to agree with others that say that since Cingular took over AT&T that the service has gone to crap. I used to have fabulous coverage regardless of where I went with a few minor hiccups in the Prior Lake area. Now, I can barely get a signal in my home. At work in Burnsville (Hwy 13 / Cliff area), I'm lucky if I can make a connection at all and when I do, it is spotty at best. Because I couldn't even get a dial tone, I tried calling my phone via a land line. My phone rang thus proving it worked. However, the magical part was that I could then get a connection after having tried for over half an hour! My husband has the same problem with his Motorola phone and a co-worker was asking around about providers because her service took a nose-dive after Cingular took over. Oh, I had AT&T since 1994 and can't recall ever having had a dropped call or really cruddy reception even when travelling to the Brainerd area or Wisconsin. Until now that is.

I was a very happy AT&T customer for at least 4 years. Over that time I lost perhaps 10 calls. I switched to Cingular (I thought it was the same but it isn't). I had to switch bands and phones. The phone seems the same as before; size brand etc. Now I lose 3-4 calls a day. Coverage is very week. I'm stressed as what to do. I like the Cingular plan, tons of minutes. I had Sprint before - totally unacceptable. I talk regularily with someone with verizon, he doesn't seem any better than Cingular. Not sure what to do

I was an AT&T subscriber, but with the switchover, in the last few weeks, thing have gone from bad to "I HATE AT&T / CINGULAR!" Everyone who tries to call me has said that this was their 3rd, 4th, 8th attempt since they get messages saying, "We're sorry, we can't connect your call right now." I miss calls completely with no "missed Call" indication on my phone too. They simply don't reach my phone. At least half of all calls get dropped or lose all sound, so I have to hang up and call again. Or, I have the lovely oportunity to converse with myself, since my echo is all that is sent back to me. This doesn't just happen on the east side of STP -- Calhoun, Southwest, both downtowns, Highland, MOA, Camden, EVERYWHERE. Before Cingular came along, sure I had some dropped calls. But not like this. I am stuck in my AT&T contract till August 20th. After that, I am running away and never coming back! You suck! The best part is when I called Cingular, they tried to get me to reup my contract. Hell no! My phone reads 4 or 5 bars consistently, which I now realize has no significance. I judge by how clear and reliable the calls are. With Cingular, they aren't!

Just ported four of our phone numbers from Verizon to Cingular. All around the Twin Cities (I live in St. Paul, work in Plymouth and my parents live in Brooklyn Park) the signal is very strong. Because the signal bars on my phone is usually at full strength, it sometimes makes me wonder if my handset is giving me a false reading. At work, in basements, highrises, Lowry Tunnel, local malls and the MOA, signal is stronger than what I had with Verizon. A few strange things: Twice, my calls have been misrouted. The caller ID displays the person who had called me or the person I had called, but the person on the other end was not the person I had called. It wasn't someone I knew, just another ATT GSM/Cingular subscriber, I assume. Also, there are some garbled words during almost half of the calls I make with Cingular. Hoepfully this will be fixed. Cingular customer service is no so great compared to Verizon'; I seemed to get transfered a lot from department to department when I called in, which is a bit frustrating when calling about a simple billing question. Right now it looks like their customer service is open only Monday-Saturday and not 24 hours. Not so great when compared to other carriers. So far I'm happy with the service, just because my phone is getting great reception and I don't have to go into Analog all of the time like I did with Verizon, which means I don't have to charge my mobile as often. The best thing about Cingular? All GSM digital service, no analog, and none of that 'Extended Network' I had with Verizon, who took no responsibililty for reception or clarity when you were on 'Extended Network', which seems like it made up about 90% of their entire network. Also, money-wise, Cingular is cheaper, adding a line to the family share is only $10 plus double the minutes I got with Verizon.
