I live a little bit NW of this intersection, and have no problems making or getting calls at home. Have also had good service in most of KC area, w. only a couple of dropped calls in Lenexa area, using this and previous Motorola V710.
Great reception everywhere in Kansas City except in my appartment building at the above intersection. I constantly get dropped calls unless I sit in the middle of the appartment and don't move while I'm talking. I've been very happy with Verizon otherwise but I'm really getting sick of having bad reception at home
Better off with tin cans and a string. After going through a ton of phones, finally found the Sony that would at least maintain a connection up and down Waukomis, although it is barely useable. Cingular's Northland coverage is TERRIBLE and customer service is the worse I've ever seen (and that's AFTER you finally talk to them). There is a new tower going up at Barry Rd, east of Green Hills but I don't know whose it is. Looks like Cingular, but don't know how to find out.
If your standing still and in certain key places in Kansas City you can get 4 out of 5 bars. You're guaranteed to drop calls a few times if you decide to drive around with it. Calls from my work place down at 104 and Holmes get 0 to 2 bars out of 5.
For the past year, reception has been very good. Not as good as Sprint's superior PCS coverage in this area, but still good. But for the past month reception has been awful. Most calls get dropped, all calls suffer from dropouts and dead air, intermittent connection. Cingular's website is geared towards selling you more junk instead of helping you solve your problems. Their website's customer support consists of info you can already get from your manual. And calling them is difficult when you can only hear every other word on your phone.
I used to use Tracfone and never had a problem. I switched to Virgin Mobile. What a disaster! I started with the Kyocera K9. Reception was awful. I thought it was the phone. I'd used Nokia and had great luck with Tracfone. So I purchased the Nokia Shorty. Reception improved, but it's still terrible. I can't get access in a quarter of the places I did with Tracfone and it drops calls constantly. They nag-nag-nag with contests and other junk rather than improve the service. The phone doesn't even display what time or amount is left, something I find indispensible, and they charge for any calls to find out the balance after 2 on a given day. They're cheaper than what I was paying, which was my goal. But it's not worth saving a couple of bucks a month if I can't even talk to anybody. NET10 here I come!
