I chose US Cellular based on comments by other users over 15 years ago and have not been disappointed. Excellant reception 99.5% of time, even in mountains around Asheville, NC.

Have great reception city-wide and even inside my house. I only lose calls when driving west on I-40 to Knoxville, and also get spotty reception in SC at Lake Keowee.

I spend a month or two in Asheville each year and bring my Sprint cell phone with me. Have had no problems making or receiving calls in this area or in all our travels around Asheville and suburbs.

I always get wonderful reception everywhere I go in Asheville. Beaver Lake is known to be bad for cell phones. US Cellular has the tower there and my reception is great. My kids have Verizon and Cingular - neither work well at my house. I find I have a lot of trouble receiving calls when roaming outside Asheville. I just get the alert of a missed call, no ring.

I tried several services until finally going to U.S. Cellular - which has been fantastic. Cingular / AT&T didn't work at all. SunCom was almost as unusable even though I live and work in central areas of town. AT&T at least gave me all my money back. SunCom refused to refund my activation fee even though their service is totally unusable. It should be a crime for these companies to sell their "service" here at all. Verizon reception is almost as good as US Cellular but the customer service in their local store was so attrocious that I decided to try US Cellular instead. I am VERY happy with the reception, phone selection, and customer service. In summary, US Cellular and Verizon will work in Asheville. Everything else is a total waste of money.

Got an Alltel plan earlier this month and coverage has been very good everywhere in Asheville. It's right on par if not better than it was with Verizon when I was with them. I've not had any trouble spots where I couldn't make a call. Currently getting great coverage and more minutes for the price. Full signal at Broadway St., Hendersonville, Biltmore Ave., and generally good coverage overall. Signal does get a little weak (2 bars) around Edgemont Rd. but I can still make and hold onto a call. Not had a dropped call yet. Very happy with Alltel at this point. Happy enough to come online to write a review about it!

around town Verizon is king. I have a little trouble in the mills gap area but never had a dropped call. I recommend Motorola for optimum network reception. I've been with Cingular and there is no comparison to verizon. Verizon hands down is the best.

Great reception, at work (Patton Ave) and at home (Sweeten Creek). The only place where I get dropped calls are when I'm driving home there is one spot on 240 between the Tunnel and Charlotte St. exits where I get dropped everytime. Other than that, I have no complaints whatsoever.

alltel has no office here and can give me no local number. We are switching to verizon. Alltel has had the best reception of all carriers that we have tried (sprint, cingular, at&t). We travel throughout US and it is by far been the best of those. Even picks up in mountains and most of others have real problems

i think the previous listing for Asheville the guy buys cheap crack! best in this area. much better than anyone else i have tried out
