I cx-ed my plan with T-Mobile so that my family and I could have a family plan. I moved from RI to Chapel Hill, NC and my reception is non-existent in or near my home. When I went to Verizon for the first time they told me to program the phone with *228. A wk later- no improvement. I went back. They told me to call a tech. line- the tech said they would get back to me in 7-10 business days. 'Mary' their representative told me: CELL PHONES ARE NOT MEANT TO REPLACE LANDLINES, AND THEY ARE NOT EXPECTED TO BE USED INDOORS. If you are able to use your cell phone indoors-- that's your good fortune. VERIZON will not be held accountable for calls made or lost indoors. I was told my another customer that there is little / no cell reception in the Verizon store on 15-501. Last Friday, a group of customers had to gather outside the Verizon store searching for a signal, when Verizon's representatives recommended that they call tech support.

Have never had a problem with AT&T (or Cingular, for that matter) around Chapel Hill. Am always using 3G data on my phone, with fast speeds in and around the area. Clear voice quality and rarely dropped calls let me know I picked the right provider, as I often see people on Sprint or Verizon losing calls around campus.

I cannot get reception at my home (Cates Farm neighborhood, McDougle School) in Chapel Hill. It is also very limited across all of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro area. I have also experienced a lack of connection when driving I-85 South from Greensboro to Spartanburg, SC. This is a Major Interstate corridor, and I get no connection, not even a weak one ! Very disappointing.

No reception in house on Wolf's Trail. Could barely get a signal outside about a block away to check text messages, but couldn't make a call. Cancelled contract within a week.

Wonderful reception all throughout campus. I had 4-5 3G bars the entire time and when I switched to EDGE it maintained all 5 bars. Call quality was wonderful and I had no problems in any of the buildings. I was visiting UNC because I will be attending there next year. My parents who have VZW didn't have near the amount of quality service I did. On both phones they had only 1 bar and they said they were having trouble hearing anyone. It seems like anywhere in NC that I've been AT&T has out performed VZW

4-5 bars on 3g. All 5 with EDGE. No problem anywhere on campus and 3g is blazing fast. In Chapel Hill / NC in general AT&T is the only way to go.

Just recently started getting excellent reception from Alltel inside buildings. They must've put up a new tower as I previously got awful (if any reception) even outside in certain areas. I'm happy!

Alltel has horrrrible service throughout the majority of the UNC-Chapel Hill campus. Most students who come with Alltel have to change... and the company is not doing anything about it soon. I have complained numerous times and they keep telling me they are putting up a tower--which the date gets farther and farther away every time I ask. Not sure about other service providers but I've been through two phones at UNC with Alltel and both have been horrible, inside and outside.

I get great reception everywhere on campus even in the dorms. I have 4 / 5 bars everywhere. I transfered from Sprint to AT&T and I love it. My roommate uses Alltel and constantly drops calls in the room.

Overall I am happy with the new Alltel service I got about 6 weeks ago and would give them a positive review. Outside it does great and is usually on full signal. It does drop off somewhat indoors like all providers, but the signal is better than it use to be with at&t / cingular, which I just switched from, in a number of places by a bar or 2. Indoors, where it seems like everybody drops off, I usually have 1-2 bars in places where my AT&T phone said no service so it's nice to actually be able to use the phone in those places. The calls even sound pretty clear even if it does get down to a low signal inside somewhere.
