I bought the cheapest flip phone available.. and it's doing pretty good so far. My house gets from 4-5 bars... and my phone usually has the best reception out of all of my friends. I have one dead spot when I'm traveling up Providence Road.. and that's the only one that I notice.

AT&T is not THAT bad, but it is not great either. The phone itself and service plan are simply OK, but I am also looking at staggering bills and lost signals. The bottom line: I'm looking for another carrier... are you?

Generally VERY good reception. A few dead spots - part of John Belk Frwy and part of Independence near uptown when windy / rainy. Radio (walkie-talkie, touch to talk, etc) can be VERY frustrating sometimes, though.

No reception at UNCC unless my phone switches to Cingular... and its still horrible. I live in a townhouse off N. Tryon and it only works in my living room. If I'm lucky my phone might ring in other parts of the townhouse, but I don't even bother answering anymore. Both my roommates have Verizon and they have fabulous reception. :(

If I go anywhere within 100 yards away from the building, service is OK. It's just in the building and on the grounds that the reception is dead.

No trouble with reception. Not sure of the model of this Motorola, but it is a "Tri-mode", which I gather means both digital and analog. I get 5 bars both inside and out. On rare occasions there is some echo that is annoying. Interesting sidebar: When speaking to someone else who is ALSO on a cell phone there can be a slight delay that throws off the timing of the conversation just a hair, so that you end up talking over the beginning of each other's words. With someone you know well, and speak with often, it's a noticable difference. Whether that is a function of the cell phones, the network, or the sunspots that day -- I have no idea. But it's one reason I would never give up my land line.

Reception is non-existant where I work at TIAA-CREF, and random everywhere else around the University area. Some areas in my apartment work great, others suck. Don't even know why I have a cell phone with reception this bad.

Cell phone reception at my home and at UNCC is terrible. Phone says it has 3 bars of signal but when you actually make a call it often drops to 0-1 bars. Calls dropped frequently.

Dead spot in the entire neighborhood. Dosen't seem to matter who the carrier is and the company (Verizon) states the dead spot, while in South Charlotte, is related to several parks surrounding the subdivision. Even tried an external antenna with no success.

I start having problems on Providence coming out of town, at my house I have little or no service. Sitting outside helps occasionally, but no guarantee.
Also drop calls frequently near Concord Mills.

Signal usually 3 to 4 bars. If I go into basement of work I will lose signal but will pickup a full Cingular signal. I have to check phone and make sure it does not lock onto Cingular so I will use my unlimited mobile. Little frustrating when your in the middle of metro area and since you use another carriers network you are using your anytime minutes.

Good reception as long as I stay outdoors. AT&T GSM doesn't do well indoors.
