Just moved near UNC Charlotte's campus and coming from Cameron, NC where there was hardly anything there, Alltel still prevailed and had fantastic service there. Here in Charlotte the service is just the same, crystal clear calls along with the EVDO technology offered here in Charlotte. This service is great, and I recommend Alltel to anyone who is looking for a dedicated, realiable celluar phone service. Pass the word around this company is truly about "loving" their customers. This is not surprising to be roaming on the Alltel network and still have excellent coverage. From Florida to New York to Texas Alltel has always provided me service that has never let me down. Consider switching to Alltel.

Verizon reception in Western part of Mecklenburg County near Gaston County line is horrible. Dropped calls and poor reception. I have called Verizon several times, each time they have promised to look into my concerns and that they will call me back. They have NEVER called back.

For 6 months have not been able to get signal inside my house. Repeated calls to Cingular do no good. They offered to give free minutes, but have not seen them yet. They told me I needed a new phone. Bought new phone.. still no signal.. Wasted my money. Can someone recommend a decent company? I'm leaving Cingular after 8 years.

We just moved here from Durham where we had perfect reception and coverage. Here, our phones work spottily. Sometimes they don't ring, sometimes they do. More often then not, I guess they do, but it isn't dependable. Walking around the house talking on the phone yields spotty service often correctable by moving 3 inches in one direction or another. Talking near a window doesn't help much. Nor does talking outside. FWIW, my parents have Alltel and their phones work perfectly in every corner of my house, including the basement.

I live in Coulwood and use Verizon Wireless. I get spotty reception, and rarely can complete a conversation on the phone. Calls drop occasionally. Worse are the calls that don't drop but you can only hear every third or fourth word of the conversation. Verizon has shown no interest in resolving the issue.

The reception is typically pretty good. However, whenever I travel south of Ardrey Kell I lose the call. I also lose reception on the eastern side of the I-485 loop.

My phone is useless at home, and within 5 miles of the new Wal Mart is pretty bad. Many spots are completely dead, others are just terrible. Down by Mountain Island lake I have a weak signal, but it's too weak to carry on a conversation. I had Sprint until 3 / 2005 and it wasn't great, but it had far fewer dead spots. Sprint's pricing is much better these days, so I could pay $100 more for a phone plus pay Verizon $175 for early termination and still save almost $700 over a 2 year contract.

With two different phones in my house, plus broadband card very poor service if at all. Shopton + Tryon The good manager at the ParkTowne Village store offered a newer broadband card, and I purchased the external window mounted antennae and still am not able to connect. Cell phones drop calls, unable to use pix messaging, or other services. Family visiting from different areas and phones with Verizon also have bad service or no service. Phone service around town varies from excellent at Verizon stores to below average around town. Broadband card is nearly useless around town. If you are able connect, once you move about you are able to roam to other carriers towers but if you are dropped and try to reconnect, the card will show extended network with full strength but unable to authenticate. I've run *228 very many times and no improvement. We also took one of the two VX8100 for updated firmware and no improvement over the other phone with the older code. We are building a house just outside the Mt. Holly-Huntersville + Hwy. 16 area and again same poor coverage there. Coming from S. Fla I've never had a problem down there, I wish they would fix this. I don't want to reinvest in new equipment or the hassle of changing carriers, seems like all the providers have coverage problems in Charlotte area.

I agree with an earlier comment about the choice of phones. I have been with Sprint for at least 10 years and have found that when I'm with others on the Sprint network, they may have problems and I don't. I travel a lot for a living and have not had any problems where I go. I am on my 4 different Sanyo phone and very happy with them!

Service is very poor. If driving within a 5 mile radius of the University area you can expect to drop calls in multiple locations. Talked to Cingular after AT&T purchase and was advised AT&T towers were sold to SunCom so service will not get any better. Also advised that they have more than enough towers in the university area and there is full cell coverage so there are no plans for improvements.

I read the Charlotte comments on here for Sprint PCS and it looks pretty bad. However, I have been a Sprint PCS customer since 1997 and there is one thing that kept me here. I believe when it came to good reception its having the right phone and the right network. Sprint has a lot of poor phones but I have had near spotless reception in Charlotte and all the way up the east coast to New Hampshire when I go to visit family. The Sanyo phones if you have the right ones are the key for me. I was actually surprised to see how all the poor comments about Sprint in Charlotte but, I wasnt surprised to see that nonbody had a Sanyo phone that had poor reception. Its been working that way for me for many years.

Have never had good reeception. Calls dropped nonstop. Maybe one bar in the house 2-3 outside but still poor reception when talking outside. Went to the Arboretum store and was told new tower would be up in January fully working by February... just got off the phone with Verizon and learned that the new tower is going up "sometime in 2006". Tired of paying 75 dollars a month for horrible service
