It's interesting that I ran across this site when I was looking for info on the Verizon store here at Exit 312. I used to live over off 42E in Flowers and now over in the Cleveland School area. Coverage has always been good and not really that many dropped calls. I'm curious about those of you that post that you have crappy service.. Do you have one of the el cheapo phones that they give you when you get the service? I used to have those and yep they suck. Once I got a BlackBerry and now a Droid the coverage is no problem. Instead of blaming the Cell coverage why don't you blame your poor choice in phones?

I have switched from Verizon to Alltel because of frequent dropped calls. Alltel has been great. Anyone with Verizon service in the area of Clayton has the option of getting out of their contract without the termination fees because Verizon does not have the proper licences to service the area, so they cannot hold you to the terms of the contract, (good for those that had Verizon and moved into the area only to experience the lack of coverage) but your billing address must be from the 27520 area it may extend further but I don't know one way to find out is to plug in your zipcode on the Verizon website to see if services are offered for the area and if not then you can terminate as long as you reside within the non serviceable area (but Verizon won't tell you this).

Better than most- havent had major prblems with Verizon although I have noticed that this area does not get great reception from ANY carrier..I would Verion is the least of the evils. I just wish there were lower cost plans. My Droid's 3G coverage, however is spotty dependent on where I am in the house. Some spots better than others... download speeds much better in mid Raleigh. Sprint's map is awful... which is why I refuse to move to the brand new $19 / month unlimited plan for that new carrier out of Cary. If they used another carrier's network, I would have jumped in a heartbeat. I know Sprint's is AWFUL around here. You can't justify a CHEAP plan when you can not make or receive a critical call. Thats the bottom line.

just moved from DE to NC..bars fade from 3 to 0 Verizon readily admitted they are not a power in the area (unlike comments of other reviewers) recommended I drop coverage (no fee with proof of address change) and get another carrier. to me that is first class customer service, checking out Nextel and alltell. As soon as Verizon has area tower I will return to them.

I have had Verizon for 2 years in the Clayton area(Archers lodge) And is horrible coverage here However, if you buy a network extender and hook it up you will never ever have a dropped call again :)

I have had Nextel for more than 4 years now and I only have them for the Direct Connect / Walkie Talkie feature because many friends have one. I am thinking of switching to another service provider however, since the reception in the area and surrounding areas (Rock Pillar, Mal Weathers (off of Sauls / Pagan Rd. Garner), many locations around Clayton on back road areas.) is really terrible or non-existant. I am really amazed that everyone who has posted here has service issues, and the fact that it is occurring from all cell phone providers is also shocking. I thought someone else may have had better service from their provider than myself, and was I looking to change providers. I guess no need to change since I might not get any better reception than I am now with another company. Bottom line is Why do we not have better service with all the towers around Clayton? The providers should not have to put up a new tower, just pay to use the tower already built. I guess we shall see what happens, but until then waiting on better cell phone coverage here in Clayton, NC.

Verizon service is really lousy at my home in Clayton and at my office in Cary. Strangely it is pretty good anywhere outside NC. Before that I used Alltell, and dropped about the same amount of calls as Verizon. I also tried Cingular I dropped more calls in 2 days then in 2 years with Alltell / Verizon. Verizon offers to many Motorola phones which have to be the worst in the industry for features and just plain being a phone. I currently have a V265 and in a few days will decide on a new phone will get a real pleasure in taking a sledgehammer to the Motorala as I proud say "Good Bye Motto"! Not sure any carrier provides any better service in Clayton and Cary. I am going to do a lot more research before switching carriers again. Get people with different plan to come over and work their phones to see who seems to have the best signal and fewest dropped calls.

When I signed up with Nextel in August 2004, my coverage was good, and I rarely experienced a dropped call. For well over six months now I am lucky to ever get a call through without being dropped. I frequently hear echoes, and I'd say only about 40% of my calls are a success (and I don't talk for very long at the time). It's almost impossible to make or receive a call indoors either at home or at work, and the direct connect (walkie-talkie) will not work without repeated tries to get through to my party. My son is on our family plan, and he lives 20-25 miles away and has the same problems. I've contacted Tech. Support, Engineering, and even emailed the Board of Directors at Nextel. No one has been able to resolve the issue. The merge with Sprint was supposed to enhance our service; however, I don't see those enhancements. I don't care for all the 'bells and whistles' that the wireless companies use to lure prospective customers. All I want is service that is consistently good.

Verizon is very bad in this area always has been despite claiming they increased the signal coverage recently. Basically our Verizon phones ar euseless at our home. Wish I knew how good ATT was here.
