Coverage is awful. I can't even send texts... my girlfriend couldn't get my responses so she dumped me.... haha no, not really, but I truly can't respond to texts because the signal is so bad and yes, this truly is a problem with my girlfriend. No good, AT&T.

Weak and inconsistent signal strength inside my house in the Bradbury subdivision off of Lumley Rd. One minute it is fine and next minute, call is dropped. Cannot depend on the phone for work. Also poor signal strength in Whole Foods on Broad St. in Durham, and in Earth Fare and Target in the Brier Creek shopping center. I do not recommend AT&T!

I used to have decent AT&T reception in my home but something switched within the last two weeks and I can't get any reception on my blackberry. This is jeopardizing my ability to work from home because I have alot of meetings on my blackberry. I'm in a panic because I'm under contract through work. I wish I knew what AT&T did because something drastically changed and it's very frustrating

AT&T Wireless stinks in my area. I often cannot get any signal in my house, and there are several large "dead zones" nearby, along MLK Jr. Pkwy, along, Garret Rd., along Hope Valley Rd., Academy, you name it. I'm consideriung swtiching to either Verizon or T-Mobile. Can anyone make a detailed and coherent recommendation? Oh, does the actual phoine make a difference in the signal power? I have a Nokia RH-74, which came with the old Cingular plan, but I submersed it in a cup of water a few years ago. I dried it out thoroughly, and it now works, but it's a big, heavy phone and I never could figyure out how to use the phone book features. Ridiculously complicated. Thanks.

In my house: downstairs you can run or hide, don't matter, you lose the signal! upstairs, I have a bar, still calls go to the mailbox, or I lose connection after waiting one hour on hold: operator comes up, and boom! signal is lost, lost! Hey big fat-cats AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and the likes: Stop paying ads every six seconds AT MY COST, and start doing something about your TOWERS and equipment! Your empty SLOGAN: 'More Bars" is full of BS! Or you'll end up being competed and replaced by Koreans or the Chinese, you nitwits!...

AT&T works perfectly. That's when you're outside. If you're on west campus inside a building, the signal will drop to zero within feet from the door. I don't know if Duke's buildings are made out of lead, but I should point out that Verizon does have in-building coverage, so AT&T should either build more towers or Duke needs to funnel GSM signal into buildings as they do with CDMA.

My iPhone gets horrible reception where I live (near 751 and Constitution Dr. in "The Forest" apartment complex). Cell signal bars come and go, and I have to walk around my apartment before I can find a signal. Inside the Fuqua School of Business at Duke, where I'm a student, I get NO reception at all. ATT / Cingular is very spotty throughout Durham. I get ok reception near Target and Wal-Mart and when driving in open space.

Very poor reception ever since Cingular ceased using Suncom's Towers (late 2006). Cannot make calls from inside of buildings (houses), and half the time, calling from out of doors is a futile task. Cingular (AT&T) claims that a new tower will be open for service on Sept 1 that will correct this issue for the Grove Park area of Durham.

My phone tends to drop calls in these areas. If you have a kid at Creekside Elementary or Githens Middle School, don't expect to be able to chat on the phone while waiting to pick them up. I've had this problem with Motorola V180, V220, and V3 (RAZR). Reception can also be spotty at Duke University and around certain parts near UNC campus (and also inside of the dorms, even though Cingular is the official carrier for the university).

Since I moved to Durham 2 months ago, I cannot use my phone for more than 2 or 3 minutes inside my apartment, and even then the connection is still terrible. I lived in Chapel Hill earlier this year, and reception was okay, just like it is in most of the Durham area. This is my second LG phone, though, and I will never buy one again. The reception is horrible and last year it would often just not ring. I would have it sitting on the table next to me and all of a sudden a voicemail would be delivered to the phone, even though the phone never rang. I've had enough of LG phones and if I weren't still sharing a plan with my family, I would drop Cingular immediately.

The reception in this area is really weak. My friends use Verizon phones and they have much better signals all the time. Even at Duke, Cingular is bot reliable and the signal dies whenever you enter any building or structure. I strongly recommend not using Cingular in this area.

Cingular coverage around Duke has been miserable and unreliable. It was perfect out West, but since I have moved to NC, it has been awful. Calls with four bars reception strength one minute drop to nothing--and I'm sitting still, indoors, with clear weather. It is very frustrating and I'm looking for whatever else is out there. Had a terrible experience with Sprint and was grateful to have such good coverage and service from Cingular while in California. From what I read on this site, not much hope in Durham with Cingular.

I am currently on my third phone with Cingular, and the cell coverage is as horrendous as ever. I suffer so many dropped calls and crackling reception in the Chapel Hill / Durham area that my friends have resorted to just e-mailing me. I have no problem with Cingular's prices or customer service, but the reception in this area is truly infuriating. My contract ends in two months, and I'll be going with Verizon, which seems to be the dominant carrer in the Triangle.

No more than 2 bars anywhere I go. Most times when using phone goes to 0 - 1 bars and drops call within 5 minutes. Half the time the phone doesn't even ring and I just get notified I have voicemail because of poor signal. Contacted Cingular to complain and got generic reply about "many factors influence cell phone reception including device, weather, location, surrounding buildings, etc."

I've used Alltel, Nextel (pre-merger), Sprint, Cingular and Verizon Wireless over the last year (through Feb. 2006) in this area, Sprint, CING and VZW currently. Both Verizon Wireless and Alltel provide decent indoor and outdoor coverage, up to three bars outside and between one and two inside. Cingular coverage, since the network integration, isalso much improved and I get both GSM and EDGE coverage at one to two bars inside and three or more outside. Nextel coverage is quite spotty, with no indoor coverage, and Sprint is even worse. For all of these carriers there are coverage gaps where the calls drop, but overall I like Alltel and Verizon the best with Cingular a close second.

Had TDMA Service with AT&T Wireless which was sold to Suncom which was sold back to Cingular. With AT&T Wirless and Suncom I had strong Digital service in this area. With Cingular I had digital service up until 11 / 29 / 2005 when Cingular claims to have done "network consolidation". Ever since the consolidation, I have ZERO digital service from Cingular using my TDMA phone. Cingular says I will have to switch to GSM to get digital service again. I chose a Tri-mode phone because the service worked even in remote areas where the phone switched to modes "Extended area" and "Roam". Now all I get from Cingular is "Extended area" and "Roam" service. Cingular will definitely loose my business unless this is fixed.
